There is a stunning wealth of knowledge here...I want to capitalize on it for Expo!

Who among you are coming?

Ah Matt... You've discovered one of my original reasons for creating the UPE events...
The potential amount of Propeller IQ in one room is overwhelming. :)

I'm glad you made this thread - I wanted to know who was going to be coming from the illustrious forums. That said, Whisker and I will be coming! We'll be bringing Peter as well = the crazy kid with the heatsuit :) I believe from the tymkrs IRC we'll have Brainwagon there as well. (I'll let the other folks who we know mention their arrival since I think they're on the forums too)

    We're super excited!

I'm signed up, but my contract in California ended. There is a 50/50 chance a new gig will bring me close enought to attend in person, otherwise I'll be there in spirits.

I will be there. Somewhat inactive lately with knee replacements and a new puppy.

I'm also glad you started this thread. I'm still on the fence about attending. Maybe seeing all the other forum members who will be attending will be enough to get me off the fence.

    (I really hate travelling.)

...I'll be there - looking forward to raising my IQ by association for a couple days.

And if I can find/kill the last bit of noise, I'll bring my flagship product prototype.

@Erco - if you don't show, I'm gonna be the lonely BS3 (oops!) BS2 guy.

Come on Duane. I'll go if you go!

Assuming I get my income taxes done before then...

National Robot Week also overlapped with April 15/tax day last year.

Is it possible that this Expo is actually some kind of IRS Sting operation?

@erco, you owe us a trip here. No IRS anywhere to be found at Parallax so you'll be safe. Duane should visit too, just so we can thank him for the useful forum support.
@tymkrs, thank you for bringing Peter. This is where he belongs and it will be nice to see him. It'll be nice to have all of you here. Please tell me you're not all driving a car from MN.
@davejames, would like to see the product prototype.
@don, we'll get the ELEV-8 in the air. We've gotten pretty good at figuring out how to fix these little nuisances that prevent pilots from taking flight.
@John Abshier, congrats on the new knees (and new puppy)! Both of these things involve more life - way to go!
@sidecar-racer, you're nearly local. If you want a table to show off your project please e-mail Emily Kurze (ekurze@parallax.com).

I'll have some of my projects on a table as well. Here's what we're looking at if I can get my act together in time:

    - ELEV-8 QUAD
    - ELEV-8 HEX
    - Hybrid Robot http://forums.parallax.com/showthread.php?89269-Hybrid-Robot-Power-Plant-gt-Oversize-Boe-Bot/page2 (post #38)
    - Penguin Robot
    - Giant Toddler Robot
    - GPS-guided Cataraft (likely hardware only based on the stage of the project)
    - Talking Ping))) Sensor with VGA

What I appreciate about the Expo events is seeing entirely new ways of achieving goals. And being amidst the brains is really productive - so many of these people have some kind of entrepreneurial experience, self-starter mentality, hobby passion, and experience from other industries (earth science, biology, chemistry, aerospace, Hollywood entertainment + animation, manufacturing, education). If you have children, this is the kind of event where you should pull them out of school.

erco- I'll sweeten the pot... Just for you...

Since you're so full of hot-air on these Forums, I'll offer you several "pontificating sessions"* where you can espouse and bequeath all of your robotic knowledge to all the kids that'll be coming - just to see and experience, "The Legendary erco"...

Wasamatta? scared? stage-fright? afraid? Get off your "Forbidden Planet" and get up here!

    -Matt

    * "pontificating sessions" are non-cash compensate-able, however, I'm sure I can dredge up a "small, insignificant, low-value, major-award", plus we'll get you on film, and you'll be made the laughing stock - er, I mean - we'll make you famous...maybe, kinda, sorta...

'pop' ...ball's in your court buddy...

Absolutely right Mighty Kahuna! I'm taking both my 14 and 11 year old sons out of school - this event will open their eyes to what *real world* education* is. Plus - we may even get Maddie_the_Intern (if she can get the time away from CalPoly).

According to Google, it's an 11 hour and 9 minute drive.

What's the closest airport? I could find a lodging page and driving directions but I couldn't find airport information.

It would be great to make it out to CA for the expo but I can't make it out there this year. I do plan on making it to the original UPENE again this year and will have some new things to bring along.

@ Duane - Sacramento, CA - only about a 30 min. drive from EXPO...
    -Matt

PS: unless you're a private pilot, then you can fly into Lincoln, which is about 10 minutes away...

But in my Cessna 152, it still may be faster to drive... :(

    erco,
I'm driving up from San Diego, last year it took me about 9 hours (just cruising the speed limit (70-75 most of the way) up the 5). I'd offer to give you a lift, but I'm driving up several days early, and also going to SF for a couple days after.

Thanks Roy. Actually I'm hosed either way. There's a company function honoring my team Thursday April 12 after work, so I may be driving up (leaving LA) in the wee hours of Friday morning. Could fly, but by driving I can take up more stuff...

Yeah, part of the reason I drive (other than I like driving) is that I fill my trunk and back seats with stuff I'm bringing.

Yeah, yeah, exactly. AND, the stuff you take home!

Theoretically, I could make the trip in five and a half hours - if I didn't have to stop for gas - or tickets. But seeing as how I'll be driving a larger vehicle to accommodate the rest of the family, 16 hours is more realistic.

    I'll be bringing my ELEV-8 of course! Other things I may bring;

    Modified Eddie robot.
Mecanum robot, if I get it done in time.
    Penguins.
S2 with internal pen lifter - although last year there was little interest in it - I guess because it looks like a regular S2.

    seems like there's something else...

    Ken,
Well, I assumed everyone knew that. :) There's always cool stuff to buy and bring home from the expo. Ray, Bill, Nick, and others all have goodies. :) Plus, Parallax is pretty generous with a bag of goodies.

pffft! Why would I bring those things when you already have them there! Nicer ones too.
