Not wanting this historical thread go the way of Hostess....
I've found a palatable (yummy) alternative.
Our Walmart, in there bakery department has small (4" ?) pies. They are in little brown boxes, the color of brown paper bags and are very simply labeled "Old Fashioned _________ Pie". They are $.68 each in our store. This evening I had the pleasure of trying the Blueberry and the Peach. They are not covered in the sugar glaze like Hostess and are only 350 calories each! I actually found it to be a better pie!!!
@ElectricAye, Drakes and TableTop will have to fill the void that Hostess left. Tofu and lettuce just doesn't do it for me!
@Loopy Byteloose, I suspect robotics will shortly become very big business.
@davejames: Maybe your friend can find solace in the $2 million bonuses given to Hostess execs instead of paying for workers' retirement benefits. I just lost my taste for Twinkies.
A perfect example of greed on both sides ruining an American icon.
Did you know that greed is #1 of the seven deadly sins? Lust comes in at a lowly #7.
American Icon? You've elevated Hostess to highest cloud in heaven. Sure, I grew up on Wonder Bread, Twinkies, and Hostess Cupcakes. But my mother sent be to school with butter and sugar sandwiches on Wonder Bread.
It's no wonder that my dentist is a very happy man.
Maybe all these union workers can produce something that is healthier for children-- everyone's children, including their own.
Every year I give my little brother a gag gift. I'm kicking myself for not having thought to pick up a box of Twinkies for him this year. (he's getting a banana-flavored lollipop with a scorpion embedded in it).
I haven't seen any Hostess product at all in several weeks. Maybe on my next trip to Canada I'll bring some home.
You wrote "blueberry" and I thought of those "Blueberry coffee cakes" I had so many years ago... in Redwood city. I realize now you are talking about something else... some other cake

Tell your "friend"!!!!
One hundred calories less? Gee, I could eat one and still have a salad for dinner!
Smile when you say that!
Those twinkies are dangerous... ask Dan White.
Could it just be that American has moved on to a better diet?
Thank God that I don't have a Walmart within a few thousand miles.

Is that all they got? Geez, after weaseling out of $ 1 billion in unfunded pension liabilities, you'd think they'd be rewarded with a whole lot more than a measly few million. That bankruptcy judge must be a communist or something.

And the only unions that are growing in strength in the USA are government employees.

Sadly, no news of the pies that I could find.
Was that "Intelligent Tough" guy?
[h=2]Value packs coming back soon![/h]
10 pies, shipped in value lots for $17.99
Is that Blueberry in the back!? Sweet!!
They used to have a French Apple. Can't remember the difference.
...nope, sorry - that's "Berry". The real Blueberry label is a darker blue.
Waiting to see if the new Hostess company will re-release the pies. The chocodiles site has notoriously proven to be in error.
I am pleased that this thread has become "One that-will-not-die!!" :thumb:
