DUDE! I heard this on the news coming into work today. Bummer. I'm hoping that they'll come out of Chp11 ok; seems they went through this a couple years back.

Don't know how my Hostess-junkie friend is going to take it.

    This is serious!

"Ding Dongs" and "Twinkies" are now threatened...

Even worse, Coke and Pepsi have been "downgraded"!

Is this the beginning of the end for the "geek" diet?

It is a sad day indeed.

But if you stock up on Twinkies, they have a half life of 200 years.

Jim, I almost corrected you that 200 years was too short... because I read your statement as "shelf" life. :D

I have been meaning to review and respond to this thread for quite some time, but I always forget. I am always seeing several varieties of Hostess fruit pies, near the courtesy booth, at the local supermarket. However, I also forgot what flavors you were seeking. Now that I have reviewed the thread, I will let you know in the next couple of days if I can help with the craving.

Hi Bruce - thank you for the follow up! Any new leads would be greatly appreciated.

BTW, Forumista markeric scored 2 (TWO!) Strawberry pies last week at a local store, and was very kind to pronto-quicko ship them to this strawberry-pie-starved part of the country.

My buddy was shocked (shocked I tell ya!) when I presented the tasty treat to him Sunday morning at band warm-up.

    Later,

    Dave

So did he eat them, or put them in a glass case on the wall "for emergencies only"? :)

When things get rare, you have to use them up slowly. Nike stopped making my favorite marathoning shoes 7 years ago, so I stockpiled 5 pairs of Kukinis from various sources. Every year I would open a fresh pair and savor the rare newness of my beloved shoes. Just this year, I opened up my very last pair and guess what I found upon closer examination?

    TWO LEFT SHOES, DOOOOOOOOHHHHH!

I notice that Dave did not explicitly say he gave both pies to his buddy -- only that he presented him with "the tasty treat." I suspect there might be a hidden finder's fee or "pie tax" in play here. :)

Or quite possibly Dave, knowing his friend's low willpower, elected to save one for a future crisis.

6 more on their way (in an ironically appropriate box might I add), so perhaps you can keep one or two for yourself this time. :) They should arrive well before the "best by" date, but I did keep them in the fridge before I got a chance to send them out.

Blueberry is still MIA, but there no longer appears to be a universe-wide shortage of the strawberry flavored kind that I was experiencing a couple weeks ago.

    ...wwwoooooooHOOOOOOOO!!! Thanks Mark!

Believe me, I'd like to snag all 6 and have an old fashioned glut-out! BUT, with the recent (medically needful) weight loss effort, all I'm able to do is snif the bag.

    Thanks again.

I suppose that this topic is providing Parallax with lots of new visitors. The ways of the Web are truly mysterious.

I grew up on a daily dose of Hostess Chocolate Cupcakes in my lunch bag. And my mom would even make sugar and butter Wonderbread sandwiches to take to school.

I left the USA physically in bad shape and it was all due to an old-fashioned doughnut habit. I had three events that were somewhat like a stroke. But by eating Chinese takeout, the blood chemistry has all cleaned up and I am better than ever.

No more doughnuts, no more sugar, no more pizza, no more french fries, ....... Thin people live to ripe old ages.

I could do without all those things, except pizza. You would have to pry that away from my cold, dead hands. High fructose corn syrup isn't sugar, right? heh
