Hi, Gang I'm on Vacation right now, but Monday July, 21st. I'll get started on the name badges. I have the holders, and the Cards to put in them. I just need a good Parallax Propeller picture to use. I asked OBC if he could help me. Can,t wait to attend my first Expo. SEE YOU THERE!!!
Post Edited (TheWizard65) : 7/17/2008 5:36:44 PM GMT
Last year when I started this idea for a Propeller Expo,
I envisioned around 20 people showing up and working with a few Propeller projects...
We are over the 40 mark, and I have people signed up from 6 or 7 different states.
I'm blown away by the response.. The expo room is rated for 80 people, and at
this rate I'll be booking a bigger location for next year.
The support from Parallax has also been incredible!
Some things to pack...
1) Bring extension cords/surge strips
2) Bring laptops for programming
3) Bring your Propeller projects!
4) If you have small composite/LCD monitors, bring them.
Still looking for someone with a MIC/AMP setup they wouldn't mind bringing.
Here's some general guidelines for our use of the facility:
-There is no smoking or alcohol allowed
-Nothing shall be attached to the ceiling, walls, doors, sprinkler system, posts, etc.
-Security lights are never to be removed
-Emergency exits are to be kept clear
-No children under the age of 17 are to be left unsupervised in the Community Center
-The City of Norwalk/Expo operators will not be responsible for lost or stolen items.
Entry into the expo is by the main door, through the gym, and upstairs to the expo room.
It is a long shot, but what are the nearest airports to the expo? In the past I lived in Michigan and drove to Cedar Point. I *might* be in the USA on business during this time frame and perhaps I could fly up to Ohio to see the expo and then drive over to see my parents in Michigan. It would be worth it to meet other propeller enthusiasts and to show off some of Brilldea's products.
I have four boxes of goodies I'm tracking from Parallax for Expo goers!
If you have items you need to ship to get them in, time is getting short!
We'll have a good sized group this year, I'm expecting around 60 people.
Since the room is fire-coded for 80, we'll have to become friends. Don't worry we have AC! :)
(I'm already in negotiation for possible rental of the gym for next year.)
There are six official speakers on my list for this year.
[Paul, I know you didn't volunteer this, but
we can't let you go without sharing greetings from Parallax, etc.]
With exception to Paul, I'd like to ask each speaker to keep their presentation
between 15-30min. I have a projector and you'll be given the time you need
to setup your demonstration. Just write your demo in on the whiteboard
when you arrive. Edit for clarity: Paul gets all the time he wants... :)
* Jeff Ledger (me)
* Rick Cassidy of Cassidy Development, LLC
* Terry Hitt of Hitt Consulting
* Brian Meade of uController.com
* Nick McClanahan Gadget Gangster, LLC
* Paul Baker of Parallax
Those who are uninterested in a particular speaker are not required to be
attentive. You may work quietly on something else, but please be polite
enough to allow others to who are, to enjoy.
Again, for atmosphere for this expo is causal! I cannot express enough
the request to bring your projects! We will MAKE the room!
There are several awesome items I know about, and a few others folks
have decided to keep a secret.
Hey guys, I may be able to attend. Travel plans aren't confirmed yet, but I have business trip to the USA. Near the beginning of the trip I am trying to make it to Michigan to see my family and then I will take a short trip to Ohio for this event. Oh I am excited!!
I think I would setup a table and show off the Prop Blade and the LED Painter that I sell through Brilldea. Maybe I can bring a couple other items too to show off. I mentioned to Jeff that I am also willing to present. I have two topics in mind. One topic is to tell others about China, the electronic markets, and show videos and pictures on the electronic assembly process. There may be people there that doen't know about this, so it could be educational and fun to tell them. The other topic could be a presentation on building LED system using the Propeller as the front end.
Now I need to work on finalizing schedules, in the mean time I will be preparing to attend. What fun!
Surely there is enough interest in "our area" to do something.
Maybe OBC can share some pointers after the mid-west expo is done.
Want to start a thread to gauge interest?
Say hi to my kids on the beach Sunday :)
There are two motels/hotels listed on the bottom of the UPENE page. http://www.warrantyvoid.us/upene I don't thing there is something in walking distance,
but I'm sure there may be someone at one of them who would ride-share.
The rooms may be harder to get now than they were two months ago, but
I both expected calls from our group.
OBC, you should have received all of the Parallax shipment this week - several boxes worth of boards and other products for the guests. Have they arrived?

I need to check the tracking, but at last check (Saturday) it was scheduled to arrive Wednesday.
Still in route.. Looks like it will arrive here Wednesday.
I'm sure there'd be enough interest for a Bay Area expo. I betcha that somebody's company wouldn't mind hosting it at their facility (the linux user group is usually at the Symantec cafeteria - the marketing group I belong to usually meets at Adobe). This is the part of the conversation where everyone waits for someone else to volunteer to put it together... anyone??
▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔ Concentrate on understanding the problem, not applying the tool
I'm setting aside some things to bring along to the expo and also wanted to see if there is going to be a swap area. I've already got a box of "free" stuff leftover from random projects that I hope others can use and am contributing one of the door prizes. Besides that I've got a couple pieces of test gear, prototyping stuff, and some kits I could bring along but want to make sure that's ok. One piece of test gear in particular may be helpful for Propeller video projects. Just trying to decide what I should pack for the trip.

Hello Timothy,
Have you setup your travel yet? If so were you just going to drive to the expo on Saturday and return? I'm driving down to the expo early on Saturday and will be coming back Saturday night. A friend of mine is riding with me but we could probably fit one more if you need a ride and aren't too far from the Detroit area.
Looks like I'm not going to make it. My spouse has been in the hospital for 4 days. She's out now, but is going to need some assistance for a while. Thanks for all you've done, and I know it will be a big hit.
RobotWorkshop - I don't have confirmed flight plans yet because I have been focussed on some other details before I can nail down the flight. I was thinking of driving down Friday night from Kalamazoo area and staying one night. Saturday evening, about 5 or 6 (maybe the time that everyone breaks for dinner) I was going to head back. My brother and I would be traveling together, thanks for the offer though.
Bambino - I am sorry to hear that. Take care of the family. If I am at the event we can start a thread here or a web site and post regular updates. I hope there is internet access.
I am fully confirmed; flight, car and hotel. If everything goes as planned, you guys are going to be very happy with my demo/talk :). Sorry to hear you can't make it Bambino, I will have my camera there, and I'll be taking lots of pictures.
@bambino: Sorry to hear you won't make it... Recovery wishes to your better half...
I will also be taking pictures.. (or perhaps ask Rebekah to take them..)
I bought another SD card for my wifes camera... For some reason Wizard and I have discovered that
once you format the card for the Propeller, it doesn't work in those $89 cameras that Radio Shack sells.
(Fortunately, my wife was very cool about this... :) Fair warning gentlemen.. :)
I once sponsored some small meetings and opened one of them up to the public... I didn't pay for any adverts... had it carried as a public service announcement on one radio station for about a week. The response was rather incredible. With your list of speakers, your meeting will be an excellent introduction to the Prop.
Actually, I've already notified the local paper.. Norwalk doesn't have radio or tv stations.
It is a small town like my own. (Small towns spread news by gossip. Drives me nuts sometimes.)
I'm being careful just how much this gets promoted this year due to the limitations on space.
(The local chamber would actually be pleased if we had to turn people away... hmmm.)
OBC,
Would you mind putting the address on the first post.
I tried to find it in here, but I couldn't.
I want to put it in my GPS.
Bean.

I'm starting to get a bit hyped about the expo myself.
Still looking for a portable projection screen and a small mic/amp setup.
(Thinking a karaoke box might be a enough for this small group)
Wizard is working on the name badges, and Rebekah (spouse) is
working out the snack bar.
Everyone expect an email from me in the next week or so to confirm
your correct spelling on your name and forum alias.
