Thanks rjo_ , that was a good one. Ya got me this time.
I don't have 'video', so couldn't see your 'tongue in cheek' attitude.
Yes, that would be a good, but strange, rumor to be true and not yet have Prop II soon in hand.
Would like any leak on Chip's thinking about a Prop III.
I think you can count me in, too. It's a bit far in advance for me to know, but once you've chosen the date I'll try to work my schedule around it. It's only a 4-hour or so drive.
I've received the bids list and pursuing a location called.... wait for it... "The Microtel" :)
It looks like we should be able to get a limited number of rooms for $67.99 a night, and meeting room with tables.
Don't register yet, as I need to talk to their staff and confirm all the needs we require are met.
Free wireless internet, HBO, pool and 6 miles from Cedarpoint..
It's looking like August 23 will be our expo day..
Again.. This still needs to be set in concrete so don't book flights yet...
Just an update.. :)

OBC,
I'm not familiar with the area. What attractions are at "Cedarpoint" ?
Anything for the family(Wife & 4 yr old son) ? Or would they just be bored ?
This is a tourist town, so if Cedarpoint doesn't work for you, there are other attractions, waterparks, etc.

I'm interested. Finally something Prop oriented thats not 2000 miles a way for where I live (Erie, Pa). I can't know for sure that my PropPLC product line will be ready by then, but if it is, I'd certainly exhibit it.

OBC,
I've sold the Misses on the idea, but my time share flight plan will need quite a bit of lead time to lock in a date.
And being a school bus driver in my other life may put a damper on things if it runs late into Augest.
It looks like I have a good date.. I'm playing phone tag with the person in charge at the hotel.
(They are closed for the Winter Season) -- As soon as I verify everything is good as far as
the meeting room, I will post an official message.
Most of the details are close to being worked out.. Don't book yet, but here's the plan as soon as I get
two confirmation emails/calls.
Aug 22-23 2008
We'll stay at the Microtel hotel. Rooms will need to be reserved a couple months ahead to insure
you get the group price. Looks like it's around $69 a night.
The meeting room at the Microtel is too small (480 square) to hold the Saturday meeting, so we will
likely use it for our Friday Night Pre-expo "meet & greet" and possibly a small debriefing Sunday
morning to discuss how things went and what can be improved for the next year.
A large meeting room is being negotiated with American Legion Club just down the road, it is
at least twice the size. (I'm working out that detail right now) We can use the facility from
9am-12:00am :) They also have a place to eat at that location.
To cover costs involved, there will be a single/family attendance fee, and a table charge.
Also, if someone wants to donate some raffle prizes, it would be helpful. I'd like to see
this project pay for itself.
Finer details are being worked out right now. I should be able to announce something solid soon.
I'd like to add my name to the list of intended participants. We too will make it a family vacation, however our kids are much too young for Cedar point so we'll probably make it a beach trip by camping at on of the local beach-front state parks. I'm fairly new to embedded programming and ucontrollers so I'm looking forward to see what everyone else is up to and soaking up what others have to offer.
I'll watch this thread for more details. Thanks for organizing this.
Is this expo still on? If so are there any additional details you can share? I'd like to make travel arrangements, but want to be sure there will actually be a conference to attend, otherwise I'll have to spend all my time at the beach
We have the arrangement with the hotel, but are still ironing out details with the meeting location.
I know that we are working against a clock here, hang tight!
The ongoing problem is meeting location.. Now that I've replaced my aging automobile with
something a half it's age, I'll be making a drive to Sandusky in person and try to lock in
the location with in the next week or so, otherwise this may have to sit on the backburnner
one more year until it can be locked in. (I'd rather wait to do something right than do an expo half-way)
I'll let everyone who has been waiting for final word soon!

If sandusky doesn't work out, how about Erie, PA. We have a brand new convention center that needs filling (complete with 200 attached hotel rooms). About 30 feet off Lake Erie too.
Just a thought,

I'm shooting for Sandusky for the obvious touristy reasons, however
unlike my own community who would bend-over-backward for a group to visit,
it's difficult to get cooperation from everyone at once. I'll be trying to get
this wrapped down completely soon. I'm still negotiating some details.
I'm not closed to the idea of an alternate location, but I'd like to keep
something interesting reasonably close while the geeks are at play.
I think Sandusky is great for all of the obvious reasons... BUT I have the feeling that the same people would show up if you held the meeting in your own back yard.
The only real issue is the date:)
Orville will be a more difficult sell as a family vacation destination, but I would probably still come. As you mentioned, Sandusky is a more attractive location because of the touristy things to do for those family members not yet enamored with the Propeller. With gas prices nearing $4/gal Orville to Sandusky 2x a day for the family makes it difficult.
I tossed out the idea of working with Sandusky, and moved it to Norwalk, OH
(Which is only 20min from Sandusky.)
Not only do I have a large meeting room from 8am-9pm Saturday, August 23rd,
but lodging is not an issue, as it is reasonable given proximity to Sandusky.
Here's the two lodging options (both are about 10-15 min. from Cedar Point)
ECONO LODGE 419-668-5656 (Rooms start at $98.99 a night)
HAMTON INN 419-499-4911 (Rooms start at $129.00 a night)
Book your rooms ahead of time.. There are plenty now, but
this may not be the case by the end of August.
Norwalk Parks & Rec is providing the facility, we will be asking a registration
fee of $10.00 per person/15.00 per family for attendees to cover the expense
of the location, etc. I need anyone who is planning to bring a demo to PM me
so that I can put you in the official roster. COME DEMONSTRATE your projects
and bring your GEAR!!!! There is plenty of table space, as well as electricity.
Internet access is not guarantied at this point, but it's been suggested that
if we can hook to their wifi, we are welcome to do so.
Edit:
Meeting location is: 100 Republic St Norwalk, OH 44857
It can accommodate 80 people. Should be plenty of room for our group.
There are several fast-food options within a mile of the meeting location.
The meeting room is reserved for us, I'll be sending a check as soon as
the paperwork arrives. (All formality at this point)

I don't know about CedarPoint, but in Chicago to figure the room tax you multiply your room rate by 2, add your age, and then subtract 100.
put me for a maybe, I would like to come but probably won't know until closer to the day.. also earlier in the month works better for me...
