Count me in- at least "virtually".
I just returned to NZ from CA and just can't make it there in person- sorry. I'll be there virtually, through the webinar. My parents will attend- please show them a good time!

For anyone attending the UPEW ... I will be getting in on the 25th and offer to pick anyone up from the airport on a first come first serve (I can only hold 3) that needs a ride on that day or the next. Just contact me via E-mail and we can work something out.

As Oldbitcollector can attest, I have an interesting sense of direction.(grin) ...The directions to Chips house from Parallax for example, 150 miles away, consisted of four numbers, no names, just numbers... Jeff thought it was a locker combination. We had a great time though talking about all sorts of stuff ranging all over the spectrum.

I'm doing website updates tonight!

Somehow I suspect I've missed someone who is presenting...

if you wish to present your project in front of the group, email me
at UPEW@Warrantyvoid.us and I'll put your name in lights. :)

Remember: WE DO NOT EXPECT YOU TO REPRESENT A
COMPANY OR BE A PROFESSIONAL SPEAKER! If you have something
you feel others would enjoy seeing, bring it and share!

If you are too shy to present to the group as a whole, request some
table space and show off "Woz-style" :)

Things to do now:

* Start wrapping down projects to bring to the expo.
* Make a list of your favorite tools to bring along.
* Start a small box of items to toss the on the freebie table!
(Stick this box in the corner of our suitcase or carry-on!)

Wait until you guys see the cool giveaway kits for the expo!

Is it okay to bring magazines to give away? I'm looking at a pile of back issues of Nuts and Volts. Also trade journals like EDN and Electronic Design. Trying to clear up space in the shop!

Tracy,

Absolutely. I'll be marking off a large corner of "to go" stuff. We can add all of your discarded material to that corner, too.

It's great that you'll be able to visit. We look forward to seeing you. From the guest list I can tell you that this is a very diverse and talented crowd.

Tracy Allen,

Ohh no! ....parting with your Nuts and Volts?! ... Actually I have a stack myself of some of the "old" double wide 10"x13" magazines they used to publish. .... For the moment I'm still keeping mine.

I have two 13 year old boys that aren't sure if they want to go to UPEW. Rather, they do want to go but are worried that they may end up having not much to do. I am leaning slightly toward not taking them but I'd hate to be there wishing that I had brought them, at the same time I want to participate in whatever activities are going on without worrying that they are getting bored. What do you guys think? Are many of you bringing teeny-boppers?

We will have hands-on activities (around propellers of course1) and many speakers.

If they are interested in electronics/Propeller they will have a great time.
Only you can be the gauge on this one.. :)

I'm pretty sure it would nearly kill my teens, but my youngest (daughter) would

Admittably I never considered that we would have a "west" expo
when I coined the term UPENE. It rolls off the tongue (UP-knee).

I think Parallax is now referring to them as just
"Unofficial Propeller Expos" :) It works.

Perhaps in the future I'll simply label them as

Unofficial Propeller Expo: Parallax, Unofficial Propeller Expo: Norwalk, Ohio.

Personally I like: Unofficial Propeller Expo: Chicago
What do you guys think?

Everyone,

I have bad news and apologies.

I'm not going to be able to make the Expo due to a major family issue that has come up.

I plan to send out some uController products that can be given away as door prizes and such, but unfortunately I just won't be there in person, as much as I was looking forward to it.

Sincerely,
Brian

I hope the family issue gets resolved.

Brian,

Sorry you won't make it. But how about sending a box of your products and we will arrange selling them for you at the uController table. The forum members like your products and we'd like them to be available.

Sincerely,

Ken Gracey

For those who are coming to Parallax, you will be able to dial into our building at (916) 624-8333 throughout the weekend. Small info bit for you guys as visitors, but a big planning issue for us office types that goes along with things like managing alarm systems, access control, etc. on a weekend.

We're in the last couple weeks before UPEW! Yeah!

Time to get those loose ends on your projects tied down!
I know there are many amazing projects in the works!

We're going to "officially" close registration for UPEW in a little
more than a week. If you have not registered your RSVP,
please do so! This helps us have nametags, giveaways, and
space calculations under control ahead of time!

Additionally, if you cannot attend we will be doing a live,
unlimited Webinar from the Expo location. Register so that
you can join the fun in VR that day.

There's some awesome giveaways this year. (Come ready to solder!)
Also there will be a bunch of items with $1 raffle tickets.
All money raised from the raffle will be given to the American Red Cross.

Remember: We're keeping the Expo location open ALL NIGHT, so
bring tools! I'm positive there will be some great unofficial demo
fun late in the night. We'll let you sleep Sunday afternoon. :)

OBC: This really sounds great. I know it will be a great success and will look forward to seeing the webinar.

Unfortunately, I will not be able to make it. I have been extremely busy with other things the past month and it's not going away yet.

For a few days I was checking out airline deals and frequent flyer miles and such to see if I can make it. I don't know that I can pull away from Singapore - it would be a mad rush trip. 24 hours of travel - arrive Friday night, expo Saturday, leave sunday for 24 hours back. I still might find a way, but my probability is shrinking.

I am glad to hear of the webinar though! I will try and jump on that.

I suppose this might be a stupid question, but will Parallax be selling their products? I'm under the impression that normally they only sell through distributors and online (no storefront).

Although I'm not going to be able to make it. I am preparing a large box of uController/SpinStudio products to send out.

Because of the amazing generosity of Ken Gracey, who has arranged for someone to set up and to man a table to sell uController products during the expo. This is amazing! It's what makes Parallax so great! I really want to say thank you!

I'm also sending some things to donate as door prizes. So there will be a few lucky people that will walk away with a free SpinStudio setup or PropNIC.
