September is a good month: not too hot (like august) but not dreary or cold. Plus school is out of session.

Since when is school out in September?

I think spacing it out is better, both because of you're·planning both events and for any other people that may attend both, something like lateish June. Most schools are out, but not so late it would interfere with July 4th.

Wow, college gets to me fast... Universities on the quarter system start sometime late September. I would like June, but I hoping to get an internship somewhere this summer, and they usually take all of June and July. August is just plain too hot to do anything useful (at least here in SoCal), so September it is. Such runs my logic, but the important thing is to have it sometime! Thanks for considering/working towards this OBC.

Week June 14-21 is good if it must be summer time. No rain; moderate temperatures.

I would note the weather (although it's not like the convention is an outdoor event).

I like the idea of June myself.

I was starting to have my doubts of doing this Spring 2009, but June 2009 might just be doable.
Time to talk to Ken and see if this works for Parallax.

I think it's possible shoot for mid-June 2009, but it's not an Expo without you.

I need some volunteers to bring their projects, tools, and parts and present what they are doing.
Time to consider polishing and finishing those projects for show.

Rollcall! Look at those calendars a little more closely and sound off!

OBC - this works for Parallax, too. In keeping with the original NE Expo's "non-commercial support" from Parallax, the details shall be up to you and the Prop-heads.

We should have some other vendors, too. It would be great to have Bean, uController, Baggers, and whoever else wants to show off their products.

Oh boy, I've always wanted to visit Parallax, even more so now after seeing Jeff's report from his recent trip.

I'll give it careful thought, I'll have to start planning now if I'm going to make it, so the sooner we have a date, the better.

I'll have to ship in my wares ahead of time, as it'd be difficult to transport all my things on the plane. When I went to the Ohio show, I filled the entire back of my Durango, with the 2nd and 3rd seats seats folded down.

Would it be ok to ship what I need to Parallax for safekeeping until I get there ?

Don't count me in yet, but I'm seriously thinking about it.

Yeah, I'd love to come, but I'd have to ship in my stuff too.

Ken, would it be possible for us vendors to ship stuff to Parallax for holding ? We could put something like "West Coast Propeller Expo" on the label so the receiving guys would know what it was. Also I'd need to get whatever I don't sell shipped back. I'd pay the shipping of course.

The sooner a firm date can be provided the better.

P.S. Can I show-off some SX/B stuff too ? Or is this just all propeller ?

Bean.

I've shipped Rebekah (my spouse & expo helper) to Florida for the week in exchange
for her allowing me to abandon her with 2 teens and a preteen for my Parallax trip.
As soon as she returns and I discuss some details with Ken I think I'll go ahead and set a date.

Keep in mind that I'm also shooting for UPENE expo toward the end of August gang.

Just a heads up regarding possible dates. Sensors Expo is June 8-10. I don't know if Parallax is planning to exhibit; but, if so, that week should be surrounded by adequate blackouts for show prep and recovery.

Thanks Phil! Adding that data to my calculations.. :)

Let me see if I can describe the flavor of an Unofficial Propeller Expo for those who missed UPENE.
(This is all tenative at this point, some adjustments will occur)

Vendors and Demonstrators meet at the Expo location 8:00am.
The expo location is "technically" closed to general public for one hour, giving them a chance to setup.

6-8 foot tables will be divided up for both vendors, expo demonstrators, and folks who want to
simply collaborate with others on a project. The expo is divided into a general presentation area,
vendor area and demos/work area.

Those who would like to formally demonstrate their project/new wares to the group will pick
an open time slot somewhere between 10am-3pm. Others who may be uncomfortable with
standing in front of a group may simply setup their project and answer questions from those
who come to your table.

12:00 lunch is generally "grab a burger" when you need a break for food. (Unless you can
convince someone to bring something back for you.:) Snacks, and drinks are provided.

I'll be planning with a local eating establishment to host the group for dinner. (Dutch style)
Something with a party room where the group can eat together. TOBA. We'll probably
ask for a volunteer from Parallax to be security so that everyone can exit for an hour or so
for dinner.

8pm-(whenever you are too tired to function) is open for socializing, and working on projects.
Ken has agree'd to keep Parallax open ALL NIGHT if several choose to collaborate on a project
and wish to work on it to 3am. (or later) I've seen some really neat projects happen around
2am when geeks loose some of their reserve (due to the hour) and start working together.
(some good memories too!)

As always, the Unofficial Propeller Expos are non alcoholic and state laws (and Parallax) regarding
smoking apply. Ohio is an outside smoking state. Other minor policies will be announced.

The expo room is officially opened the next day 9am. (and may have never closed)
with cleanup and wrap-up somewhere in the middle of the day.

Those old enough to remember the old computer shows of the 70's or the computer club meets
of the 80's will understand the "feel" I'm shooting for here. Users helping users, and sharing
of ideas.

@bean:

Honestly, we've called it "Propeller" expo, meaning that most of what will be there is based
on the Propeller, but... I'm curious about the other Parallax technologies myself.. bring it!
(besides, I should be using SX instead of PICAXE anyway..:)

I just got my grubby hands on a BASIC STAMP board (part of the Boebot kit) so I'm intending
to dabble outside the Prop a little. :)

I would possible make it to either of the Propeller Expo's if I can coordinate the trip(s) to the USA with other business or family visits. I hope to have some more Propeller products out by the summer too and would love to show them off and bring some for sale this time. I will keep watching for a date to mark it on my calendar and then do some long range planning to see if it can work out.

Potatohead is saving his pennies!!!

Also, when the dates are nailed down for sure, it may well be possible to tie this in with a business trip! Did I hear weekend deal? If so, that's sweet for me. Can do business related stuff during the week, and only have to cover my hotel and car for a coupla days!! That makes it much more possible for me to attend.

I will be driving... again. Plan to stop off in Vegas, anyone in the Chicago area or points west is free to come along.

Don't send a PM... I rarely check it.

I prefer a woman ... about 35, but I will settle for a grubby Prophead.

I am planning on showing of my home automation controller, it should be done by THAT point!
