Did I miss something or... I can't believe nobody has yet nominated W9GFO. He's usually helping out people in the Sensor forum, and those shades he wears are the definition of shadowy, you know.

Right again! Rich is amazing and tireless and extremely helpful. And don't sell yourself short, ElectricAye. You're a prime mover here. So many great people.

Matt has the impossible job of selecting the "best" one, whatever that means. Come on, Matt. Give everyone nominated and nominating here an S2 soldering kit and call it a day. They're all winners! :)

I nominate PJ Allen. Without him, newbies would never know they've made an egregious gramtactical error.

    gramtactical
    :)

Yeah, I think my third vote has to be for PJ Allen

Don't you mean gregarious gramtactical error?

Now how come I can't find an online video of the S2 singing that wonderful monastic chant "Seven" to insert here? Surely some Youtubed that!

I haven't youtubed it but my S2 sang that one!

I'll put a vote in for Jonny Mac. He's often helping out as well as having a lot of cool Propeller projects going on.

I would second Jonny Mac but nominate Duane C. Johnson. He fits the quiet helper criteria and has been helpful with very specific and detailed circuit and project feedback. It really helped me and I have seen him guide others.

P.S. If it was high profile, I would nominate Tymkr because the FirstSpin series is like having someone from the forum helping

Instead of the voters worrying about leaving someone out, we need people who haven't voted to do so.

Or not, since it increases my chances of winning.

    Tough one...

    Just vote if you haven't!

What I want you to do is submit the name(s) of who you think is a "Great, relatively un--sung Forum Hero" that has stepped in the gap and helped out some new-comers with advice or encouragement.

    So what does "un-sung" mean?

Forum members we haven't made up songs about?

I think part of the prize should be a song about the helpful forum member so we can appropriately sing their praises.

Now who has been helpful enough to be worthy of such a song? We just have to make sure no one has sung about them yet or they're disqualified.

I agree about Phil and erco being disqualified. I have lot of ballads about them.
We love you erco, oh yes we do.
There aint no one makes encoders like you.
    When you're not posting. . . we're blue.
    Oh erco, we thank you.

I'll hold off on publishing my song about Phil.

I do agree with those listed so far. I'm glad PropHead mentioned Duane C. Johnson. He's very helpful (and I don't know of any songs about him). I'm sure JonnyMac has too many songs about him to qualify.

I don't recall seeing jmg mentioned. He's a helpful member too.

I'm going to guess anyone on the Star Contibutors list is disqualified. (Phil, Mike Green, Tracy Allen, Hanno, Bean, Andrew, Roy, JonnyMac, OBC and others)

Not to forget sam_sam_sam who was speeding the Basic Stamp Forum a few years ago always stepping in with good, helpful ideas. Not seen him much lately but there would be easy to find old threads that prove his helpfulness.

I nominate myself so that it will disqualify me; there are others more deserving! (I do appreciate the recognition given to me though!)

I am a little late, so my nominations are seconds:

Duane Degn. He seems to sniff out those slightly stale newbies posts and put them in a direction towards resolution.
DaveJames. He is our Blog Hawk. He is usually first to nail down a spam flavored blog entry.

How about determining finalist by taking the total number of their posts and dividing it by the number of people nominating them? I realize this would work against the guys that post the most, but we are looking for 'the unslung hero', aren't we?

Either that, or just close the nominations and provide that stat for all nominations. Then have a final vote or selection by powers that be.

Don't worry as I know that I am too glamorous to win this.

Both dMajo and MagIO2 have been very helpful and will never be forgotten for helping on the Propeller journey... One example here where they came together to help!: (http://forums.parallax.com/showthread.php?120743-Remote-programming)

And no thanks would be complete without these guys, even if they have already been mentioned several times so I cannot officially nominate them!: Unsoundcode & Bean

I agree MagIO2 (Andreas) definitely belongs up there with kuroneko as an unsung hero. However, I don't see too much of him anymore.

max72 (Massimo) gets my third nomination for his never-ending efforts to help with code debugging /etc..
    for example: http://forums.parallax.com/showthread.php?122615-PropBasic-SD-Card

    and here: http://forums.parallax.com/showthread.php?142143-Mosfet-driver-requires-low-esr-esl-capacitor.-Any-suggestions-on-what-to-use&highlight=max72

Massimo likes to "chip" in with helpful insights here and there!

Is there any honorable mention category? If there is, I would suggest Humanoido as one that can be counted on to bring up the wild-eyed notions that spin into threads that have gone in many different directions.

Some excerpts from you to meditate on, while we're waiting for the Judge to return...
What a tremendously helpful squadron of people we have here in the forum. Anyone who has visited other forums knows how encouraging and accepting the Parallax forum is. The main difference? People here are assets!
I think part of the prize should be a song about the helpful forum member so we can appropriately sing their praises
As the contest goes on, I have seen the names of so many helpful people. The Parallax forums is truly a wonderful community of helpful and interesting people.
