    3. MP3 and Midi boards, serially controlled. Load MP3 clips via SD or u-SD on a PC, then play them back by specifying a DOS filename (could be "1" for 1.mp3, "2" for 2.mp3, etc.). The Midi board should have a decent selection of instruments in its bank.

I have so many needs for a standalonne Serial controll MP3 reader .
    Brillant !!!

    I second this !

A linux repository for Debian/Ubuntu binaries and source code for Parallax products, such as BST, PropBasic, Catalina, and etc.

We appreciate the complement - but I'll have to disagree. I, myself have a Mountain King Hydra Enclosure on my desk/bench/hovel - and I love it.

In fact, Mountain King has actually been an inspiration to me - great ideas at fair prices - with innovation to boot!

Oh, and did anybody officially welcome THAT guy to the Forums?

If not, allow me...Welcome to the Forums THAT guy!

(and if somebody already beat me to it, well you've been welcomed twice! :)

How about a thermal imaging camera?I also like the balance bot idea using your current products and kalaman filters.

I'd also like to see a small desktop sized robot. Something about half the size (1/8th the volume) of a Boe-bot, a Mini-Boe.

There are a lot of good suggestions here. A few thoughts come to mind.

A balancing robot would be good, but it would even be better if it was adapted to use a variety of sensor solutions. Some use gyros, others use IR sensors, and maybe even ultrasonics is possible. Most providers choose one and the useful life of the robot is limited by how much one can explore. The open architecture of the BOE has made it nearly an infinite useful life robot.

For the longest time, I have wished A/D and D/A were included with the BasicStamps and the Propeller. PICs and AVRs have them internally and I suspect are a big part of the popularity of Arduino.

And if Parallax were to get into a dedicated line follower bot, I suggest that having multiple configuration choices again would increase its perceived value and appeal. Nothing is quite as embarrassing to an educator as to provide a platform to students that is pretty much a 'one-trick-pony' and then ask the class to come up with competitive variations.

    1) Ping (ultra-sonic) distance measuring Sensors, with an I2C or similar interface that can be daisy changed together. These would reduce the number of micro-controller I/O pins required and would simplify wiring.

    2) A small accurate self contained Real Time Clock/Calender board with on-board battery, to be used with the Propeller chip, so that files save to memory (SD Card or Flash) can be stamped with the correct date and time.

    ANDROID ANDROID ANDROID!

An Android bluetooth gizmo which comes with an easy to install (on Android cell phone) app and with this app / gizmo, you can connect the gizmo to various things and control it from your Android cell phone.

No need to mess with the Eclipse/Java stuff, but source provided for those who might want to modify it.

There has been a lot of great suggestion in this thread, but nothing that really pushes the Propeller to the limit.
I would like to see something that REALLY shows of what the Propeller chip can do.

The killer Propeller project would ideally include the following:
    - It should rely heavily on multiply tasks being done at the same time without hiccups
    - It should use all cogs (or almost all cogs)
    - It should make heavy usage of the counter modules
    - It should do things that would be EXTREMELY hard to do on ANY other MCU
    - It may include video to show of the video generator
    - It may include realtime sound generation (of course I just had to include this ;) )

I have a prototype of just what you're looking for on my desk :-)
Don't have enough pins for stereo audio though ....

When the hardware is done, I'll send you a copy for your "SID Pocket" :)

    1) How about a product called PopCam ?

    http://forums.parallax.com/showthread.php?86376-PropCAM-An-image-capture-camera-for-the-Propeller&highlight=PropCam

    2) How about a little Propeller based biped robot about 4" tall. Let's call it a Penguin. :)

Lots of great (and technically challenging) ideas here. I trust Matt was asking for a real project, not just another laser-engraved Leatherman...

BTW, I love my Parallax Leatherman, Whit!

It's a little taller than 4", but something remarkably similar to what you are describing will be showing up at UPEC.

Here is another "yes, yes, yes" to the balancing bot kit that OBC mentioned. I also like Ratronic's idea of a balancing product that incorporates a gyro/accelerometer and Kalman filter combination. I recently built a balancing robot using the Parallax 7.2V Motor, Bracket and Wheel kit along with the Propeller Robot Control Board and the Ping sensor. It's amazing to watch it balance, but not as magical as Hanno's Dancebot.

Matt, thank you for asking for our input.

How about a some home automation gizmos! I would like to see a standard size home power outlet outfitted with either an xbee or some other way of wirelessly talking with the outlet combined with a relay to independently control each outlet. It would be nice if it could also accept and relay optional sensor data like temp, humidity, light, maybe a hall effect sensor, whatever. It would be even better if it all fit in a standard recepticle box.

    Matt's Evil Plan:

    1) hack into Forum server to make this thread invisible to Ken
    2) Solicit input from the Foum Rats to see what they would be interested in (...ask for seconds and thirds to build a statistical base)
    3) Tally up the numbers (by now it will take fingers AND toes)
    4) Prepare preseantation for Ken on "Matt's New Product Ideas"
    5) Casually ask Ken if he "has a few minutes" to go over some ideas.......
    6) bask in the warm after glow of the words "innovative", "forward thinking", "entrepreneurial"

Since I have multiple personalities, I will put a second, third, and fourth vote in for Ahle2's suggestion of a portable presentation device. My church has been looking for ways to gain better contact with shut-ins (normally older folks confined to homes) and being able to have a WAV file of a sermon with slides in a small device that plugs into their TV would be a perfect fit and low cost.
