@ElectricAye: Well, that "Monkeys on Typewriters" overproliferation is pretty much standard brainstorming technique these days. Hey wait, that gives me 4 more ideas:

    STORM
    BRAINSTORM
    BOTSTORM
    TECHNIQUE

@ Sapieha: Pablo Picasso said: "Good artists borrow. Great artists steal." Hey, wait:

    PABLO
    PICASSO
    ARTIST
    ARTISTE

Now everyone in the world knows how I think. Hey, wait:

    WALDO (as in, "where's waldo")

Got to try to keep up with erco.

    BAT - Base And Trimmings

BAT-Bot - Build And Transform Bot

    Black BAT

Because it's Black, has a Bat-like shape and uses Sonar to navigate.

Don't Bats come in Wood too.

The Wooden BAT for erco types...

So the Parallax BAT is available as the Black BAT or the Wooden BAT.

Obviously, Phil would get the prize, but I want to second his choice. "Opportunity" would be a fitting name.
How about "Opportunity"? It not only honors one of the Mars rovers, but defines what the product represents to the customer.

I kind of like Discovery and WBA's variation too.

It's like a roving plate so I'll suggest: DiskRover
Another rover option would be: SpinRover

In more humorus form, these might also be considered: SpineretteSquisher, PropBotMauler, ColorPalPeddler, PingPacker, DemoBoardDucker, TriBladeTarantula, SpinSocketSlasher, PropellerPlatformPuller, StampStunner, and AtomSmasher.

MAX, just 'cuz it's big & heavy with treaded pneumatic tires. A real world robot for indoors and mild outdoors.

Parallax MAX. Fairly rrrrrrolls of the tongue, too.

Not to denounce any of the ideas based upon the picture with all of the Pings, but which Robot Base Kit are we naming? Only the full kit comes with the Pings and motors. I thought we were naming the basic kit. I have a few suggestions for the full kit. Matt?

The Robot Base Full Kit is the one that I asked Ken about... hey, you were there weren't you?

The Robot Base Kit doesn't even appear in the Robot category. It is only a part of a robot while the Robot Base Full Kit is complete, except for the microcontroller.

    Hello Focus-Group Naming Committee!
which Robot Base Kit are we naming?

We're looking to rename the "Full Robot Base Kit". We may rename the "Robot Base" something else after this exercise, we'll see.

Lots of good (and great!) names thus far, and some...well not so good.

I don't want to tip my hand thus far, but let's just say that "ercobot" is NOT what we're looking for...I'm talking "quality" here folks...not "slap-stick" :D

Is this a subtile admission that you are willing to live in love and harmony with the HDPE base?

You could also mean that you preffer a base made of Ebony wood, but certainly a Green Guy like you would not want one made of Ivory...

    Another idea Round-About.

    Hi Everybody!
I hereby create the "Give the Parallax Robot Base Kit a worthy name" CONTEST!!!

    -Matt

I would like to submit the name "ORCA" as its a "killer" platform. Of course if you use Orca, then you would need to create some that are black & white, might make an interesting swirl effect for the platform!

More importantly Orca and StringRay would have an oceanatic theme going... I was initially thinking larger sea creature/whale, but I think Orca works best.

An alternative would be HAL, however he came a little unscrewed at the end, something I hope the robotic platform doesn't ;-)

I don't have anything clever for what Orca would stand for...

@W9GFO: Yes, I was there actually when Ken said that, but I didn't realize til my last post that there was the full kit offered. I thought those were Ken's own mods until I went to get the picture for the basic kit and saw that it was pre-drilled for the pings. Should have realized Ken had a little help from his co-workers........

I still keep my original suggestions, but I really do like ORCA as well. No need for an acronym, Stingray doesn't have one. I looked for a bit and only came up with Octo Robotic Circular Apparatus and Original Robot Causes Amazement?

I just discovered your company a couple of weeks ago and ordered a BOEBOT with PING))) as my first attempt in robotics.

As for the contest: How about ADAM. If you NEED an acronym, then something like Advanced Digital Autonomous Machine.
