I'm guessin' the reflector with the green laser would not suffer any damage since it's...well...reflective. No dark absorbing regions. Would the reflected beam have enough energy to harm the sensor?
I haven't looked at the sensor spec.'s that close but I did see that it likes 800nm infrared the best. But when ever you are using a higher power laser you should always be careful of reflections as they can put your eye out too. erco is better off using the laser he is
using because it is closer to the peak wavelength of the sensor than 532nm green.
I should have quoted erco on the selection of the sensor for the green laser.
NOT for use with this Hamamatsu sensor, wrong wavelength. But a nice strong laser, big housing, 2x AAA batteries, almost painful to look at the green dot on the wall. I got one to experiment with reflection and an old-school photocell. Cadmium sulphide photocells are sensitive to yellow-green light. Please do not call it an LDR, I will not reply. Photocell or photoresistor is fine, thank you very much.
Maybe we should start a new thread for green layzoors when erco starts to play?
A ~200mw green laser dot on a white wall is painful to look at and sorry erco for thread hijacking. A forum for laser's of all sort's is http://photonlexicon.com/forums/
Received laser yesterday, plenty bright. It takes several seconds, but it does pop a black balloon. Also provides a very visible beam pointed into the night sky. Also got red laser safety glasses, a must at this power level. Laser bot on the way!
I ordered 10 sensors from aliexpress China then cancelled my VISA card after the transaction went through to be safe. I'll wait (probably 2-3 weeks) for these sensors to arrive. If they test out as good as my real Hamamatsu's, there's no need for me to order those at $6 each.
That was a bust. Mike Cook and I both ordered from Aliexpress and they are not the same sensors at all. Black case, not clear. Maybe IR, but definitely not visible laser light. Boo Hoo, no cheap knockoff sensors to be had. After I stop crying, I'll order some legit sensors direct from Hamamatsu. Lemme know, ~$7 each shipped if anyone is interested.
That's fine. But wouldn't you Brits call it a lasre, along the lines of British spellings calibre, centre, fibre, goitre, litre, lustre, manoeuvre, meagre, metre, mitre, nitre, ochre, reconnoitre, sabre, saltpetre, sepulchre, sombre, spectre, and theatre?
Yes, Mike, you are all paid up. Thanks for the bump, I'll order soon. Anyone else? Everyone else? Please confirm your interest & quantities since it's been a while.
No idea what I'll do with them but I have two bunnies I can pay with....the good news is one's a boy and ones a girl.....which means the girls (and soon the entire neighborhood) will have new pets!!
(It's never too early to start studying animal husbandry!! ....and bunnies make good 4-H projects...does LA even have 4-H?)
I'll be ordering from Hamamatsu this week, last chance to get in. Here are the people interested this far. Mike Cook paid up long ago, everyone else PM me to confirm quantity and I'll reply with Paypal info. Still looking at $7 each shipped. I make 34 pieces needed so far, besides mine.

I ordered the sensors nearly two weeks ago and they still haven't shipped. Hamamatsu's ordering process is convoluted and painfully slow, it must be intern training week in purchasing. Every other day, the lady emails me a new form to fill out since I'm a first time buyer. The latest is to verify that I'm not reselling outside the USA for military purposes.
I could have walked to San Diego and picked them up quicker than this. Maybe I'll get them before the New Year.

Brits: Get 'em on your own continent at http://www.active-robots.com/hamamatsu-proximity-detector.html
I'm still up for 3 of the "good" ones!

Sure would like to build a laser detector.
@erco - hopefully you got the PayPal notification for payment.
I'll change my order to two.
Make sure you're charging enough to cover PayPal's 2.9% cut.

They'd be exactly thirty-seven cents, given that they are selling $15 Parallax servos for seventy-four cents. Seriously.
...plus they don't take livestock in exchange!
LA made me get rid of my beautiful chickens, right before they started laying eggs!
