How much does the hybrid board cost?
Why do you call it a hybrid?
Can the hybrid board run Hydra games?

Hi William

Pricing information can be foound on our website here:- www.propgfx.co.uk/forum/Blah.pl?b-ab/m-1192916986/
We call it Hybrid because it takes it's the best bits from the Hydra and Demoboard but we also added a real serial port, on board shift registers for standard joysticks and the SD Card interface.
The Hybrid can run code designed for the Hydra with a few i/o pin changes, it's quite easy to do really.

IMHO, the best part about it is the IDE socket. All you need to really tinker is an IDE ribbon cable and a nice breadboard. Easy to work with.

Only if you program it too. There was some discussion about this some time ago. It seemed to be possible but a lot of work for not much gain when we can use SD cards. You also won't have many io pins left smile.gif If you want to discuss this more we should move it to its own thread.

No, sorry it is a commercial product.
We will licence the binaries for use in your own products though.

We only put the 'IDE' style connector on for easy access to all the I/O pins, it is not an 'IDE' connector in the true sense.

Coley

The IDE connector, isn't an "IDE" connector, in the sense you can connect an IDE device to it, it's just because the IDE cable is 40 wires, and the prop is 40 pins, so it's an ideal breakout cable :) giving you eccess to all the pins on the propeller. ;)

Is this because it is designed for any microcontroller to use rather than just the propeller community?

If it was open sourced, it would probably be to easy to steal and have a company sell themselves.
The PropGFX does look pretty sweet though :)

Looks really cool, nice work!
If I buy it, would I get the source code and binaries, or only the binaries?

If this a stupid question, please ignore^^

Hi Hallomann!

No, it's not a stupid question, in fact it's a very serious one.

As the IP is so easy to replicate it's going to be a problem for us if someone tries to copy the binary.
Anyone with half a brain could do that so we will be supplying the pre-programmed Hybrid with a download link to the binary.
Users will be required to log in to download updates etc... the binary will be user specific so we can track any copies that are made.
Of course this won't stop you using it as many times as you like for your own non commercial projects.
If it is a commercial product then we can agree a licence fee.

We will not be releasing the source code at any point.

Regards,

Coley

I'm pleased to see that the developers are talking some steps to protect the investment in both time and money to see this mega project through to the end. I can certainly speak very highly of the Hybrid Propeller Board, I purhcased one as a kit some months ago. Put this together in around 30 minutes (give or take a few seconds) I had one slight problem and the board developer was very fast indeed to resolve this. Have not seen this board for the last month as sent it out on loan to interest other people. I loaded up an SD card with a mixture of the best from this forum. Shall have to build up another couple of Hybrids - to me they make good development boards (with the IDE breakout cable), just add the parts you want and forget the other bits such as joystick ports·yeah.gif·Oh·that would simply encourage playing·some of·Mr Baggers Very Fine·Games.

Hope would not be out of step with the Forum Moderators to ask just how many man hours you have both put in to this?

With Regards

Mike.

lol

Lots! devil.gif

Seriously though, just so you all know where we are....

We are just putting together some tech demos for some other well known micros namely a USB PIC app and an ethernet based eZ80 app.

Obviously these apps are soaking up our time at the moment, all I can say guys is that it will be worth the wait!

We have got loads going on at them moment and Baggers is churning out code like a demon but remember we only do this in our spare time....

William, it's a prop, with normal prop output, so it's using the 86 prop colours in the video...
I thought it had 15-bit rgb. Was that something else? Or am I imagining things?

OBC, we'll keep em comin, Coley has done a better screen grab, using a dvd recorder so will be posting those too.

mpark, The Full version has 15bit RGB, this is the Lite version, cheaper, because it doesn't have the extra chip on it. as it uses the prop's own video output.

That's gonna be the full PropGFX system.

The lite model, uses the Parallax reference video output circuit.

Full PropGFX isn't ready for sale yet, Coley's still sourcing parts for it, which is why we did Lite, while we wait for parts, and because Lite is cheaper than Full too :)
There's pics of the Full PropGFX prototype and it in action on the forum

On the full version, is there/will there be provision for VGA? It seems you have the hardware, at least.

Also, it would be nice to see some VRAM on there for large frame buffers. It would require a substantial reworking, but one can dream!
