    Since it's Valentines Day................

    Has anyone been able to divorce the LCD from the rest of the DVD player? That was my original intent for buying this, but I've been tied up with other projects.

    Would like to·use just the top half of the player (screen, speakers, & buttons)

    @Mike
    I've not done it, but if I where going to try I would start by applying plenty of ground and appling power to the 5V and 3.3V lines.
    Some of the 2.5 V lines might be needed but I suspect they are feedback lines from the Driver.

    @OBC
    I got you driver in and running(Thanks). It did stop the vertical rolling, It now has a problem with the horizontal. I'll post a pic latter, right now my batteries are low. let me know if you have any ideas about my setup or how the aigeneric can compensate.

    Mike:· It looks to me like the video signal goes straight from where we are connecting to the LCD cable.· The LCD controller is on the card behind the LCD.· So I think the panel part will work by itself.· I think I'll try that with my second unit...

    PS:· This area where we connect the video signal looks like twin LCR filters (one is C41,R61, L5, C40, C42 and the other is C45, R65, L6, C44, C46).· I think we could just remove L5 instead of removing the big chip...

    I wonder what the second LCR filter is for...· Maybe there are two video signals going to the panel?·

    Here's what I got with the AIGeneric C64 font. The only thing I modified was the pin, which I changed from 12 to 20. Anybody have a clue?

    Please ignore the date, new batteries and·no time to set up the memory in the camera.

    OBC, The screen is displaying the C64 video demo you recommended!

    Once again a freak mistake got something to work!
    I moved it from pins 20..23 to 16..19 and I started trying some of the other programs that worked with some of my other TV sets when It started working.
    It was then I noticed that the driver was in broadcast mode.

    When I turn broadcast off
    No screen!

    Roll me over I'm done.

    I have cut out the DVD controller chip. How do I get out the remnants of the leads connecting to the chip, or should I not worry about it. Mine also came with a dead DVD drive, but fortunately, it does not matter for our purposes.

    Yes, Those need to be cleaned up because of the shorts they could cause.
    You will need some flux, soldier, soldier wick, and an iron.
    I did it by getting a little soldier on the tip of the iron, place the wick over a few pins, and set the tip of the iron down on top of both.
    When the heat transfers thru the wick your iron will sort calapse down on the board. Before anything gets too hot, pull(Gently) back and up. The loose pins will either stick to the wick or become dislodged enough that you can come back and sort of rake them up.
    A rework air gun could probably be used too if youv'e had practice with it.

    Edit: And when your done getting the pins, go back over the pads with the wick to get any shorts caused by the recent operation.

    I am finally satisfied I didn't kill the Screen so I guess the protoboard is getting cut.
    I finally realized the reason broadcast was making it work.....The battery was getting weak!
    Charged battery and modified TV_Text a little and it's up and running without the broadcast signal.

    The screen isn't big enough to display the sensirion demo so I chopped it down a bit to get all the data displayed.

    NICE! Looks great!

    BTW, I've been running an uptime test on the battery (fully charged).
    Total uptime was 8 11 1/2 hours before the propeller chip shut down.

    Had to leave the house, so I was not here when it died, but I estimate 6 to 8 hours on mine.
    That's plenty good enough for me seeing as how I'll probably use the wall adapter most of the time.

    After a few recharges on the battery I've noticed the voltage increaseing. Mine is now up to 4.19 volts. Maybe a diode on the supply line won't cut too much run time life out of it.

    Just got the finished board in, when I noticed this. Hope the +4 volts didn't upset the Prop too much.
