Could you please update the first post with a list of the submissions?

How about I just list them here?

I apologize if I overlooked any or misspelled something, but I think this is every movie mentioned so far, in alphabetical order.
For trilogies or series, I just listed them as (all) for simplicity, even though that may not have been what the original poster meant.

Most of the above are on the favorites list, some more than others. But for appropriateness (if that is a word), for a last movie, why not Soylent Green????

Just a final thought for this thread ...........

This is a great check list. We're always coming over to Netflix and usually blank out when we face the busy red screen that promotes all sorts of fluff and stuff. Forget the last dying wish for a flick. Save those moments for stargazing and warm arms. The flicks are escape after a busy day.

My wife and I like all sorts of edgy films. Almost anything from the Coen bros.--Big Lebowski and Fargo are already on the list. Was there any Woody Allen on the list? Vicky Christina Barecelona was one of my favorites. Here are a few more for the "foreign" or I should say "international" film category.
City of Lost Children (Jeunet & Caro)
    Children of Men (Alfonso Cuar

    Add to list:
    The Silence of the Lambs
The Rocky Horror Picture Show - if you're heading to the pearly gates, you may as well be doing the Time Warp!!

    Keep off the list:
    Xanadu
Flash Gordon (yes, the one with the soundtrack by Queen)
    Dune - Sting? Seriously?

Charlton Heston was in some great films
    Soylent Green
    Planet of the Apes (original)
    The Omega Man

I also liked all the Marx Brothers and Laurel and Hardy films
No mention so far for "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane"

    "The Time Machine" (Rod Taylor)
    "O' Lucky Man"
    "IF"
    "IT"

Based on multiple recommendations of this thread, I've just rented and watched 12 Monkeys, which I'd never seen before. It was a good film, and I'd recommend it to anyone who has not yet seen it. Nonetheless, there was nothing it it that could possibly match:
"Leave the gun; take the cannoli," or
"'I'm gonna make him an offer he won't refuse. ," or
"I know it was you. Fredo. You broke my heart. You broke my heart."

    'Powerful stuff.

The idea behind "one last movie" was just to keep the number of recommendations to the small side and make people really think about their choice(s) and keep the list to the very best, not just good. I knew people would ignore that. :) Personally, I would have no trouble coming up with 25 - 50 "Favorite" movies.

I'm thinking I should add the list to the first post. Does anybody know what the size limit is for a single post?

Also, I corrected "Twelve Monkeys" to "12 Monkeys", so now it's first on the list :)
Did I miss something, or were there no Batman movies mentioned?
BTW, I thought the Sci-Fi Channel's Dune mini-series was far better than the 1984 theatrical movie.

You are so correct. The 1984 Dune was miserable at best. It was.on my "shouldn't be on the list" list.

Quite an amazing last has been compiled. Should make for some interesting viewinging choices when you just don't know what to watch!

Unless they REALLY mess it up, by the end of 2013, I'll be adding Ender's Game to this list. IMDB says it's scheduled for a November 2013 list. By the way, those are great books in case anyone hasn't read the series.

They will really mess it up. They don't have much choice. You can't do the homo/pedo stuff that is so central to the story onscreen @ PG-13.

Naked little boys fighting to the death is a major theme. Barry Longyear's Sea of Glass is a nice sendup of it.

    Really.
In 1999, it placed #59 on the reader's list of Modern Library 100 Best Novels. It was also honored with a spot on American Library Association's "100 Best Books for Teens." In 2008, the novel, along with Ender's Shadow, won the Margaret A. Edwards Award, which honors an author and specific works by that author for lifetime contribution to young adult literature.

I guess all depends on how you look at it...
