I always kinda figured that, but then P8x32<something> still fits on prop 2. I can't imagine it's P8x32B, since there's far more than an incremental update from the 32A.
The 32 in P8X32A is for data/code width, i.e. eight 32-bit processors.

Yup, 8x32 has to stay, as 8 cores, 32 bits, and Google and part search plays a part these days.
I've seen some bad fumbles in Part codes, that either a) fail to find a general search, or b) find too much chatter..
Given '8X32A' finds props on FindChips, it would be nice if that same string found Prop IIs
- that might give 2P8x32A, or PII8x32A or P2_8x32A ?
The guys building the $25 RasperryPi ARM board put some of their prototypes up for auction on eBay and they sold for thousands of pounds.
So, how about Parallax auctioning off some early Prop IIs from shuttle runs or whatever? Even if there are broken features I bet there are Propeller Heads here who would bid on them.
With all the hard work Parallax has put into the Prop II, I hope they can come up with
something better than Bob. I thought they were going to call it the TurboProp.

I suspect, based on rumblings, that the next Propeller will not be call a propeller because it's seen as a "boyish" name for a micro.
It's more likely it will be given a very pedestrian alpha-numeric name.
The successor to the Scribbler is called the S2, so my bet is on P2 for the next Propeller.
-Phil
The only problem with that is trademarks, Intel already has that and would not look kindly on stealing a page from their book.
EDIT: I spoke too soon, Intel hasn't been very diligent with their Pentium related trademarks. They never registered 'P2' as a trademark and have even let such gems as "pentium inside" lapse.

That's a start, but a name really need to be Google-compatible & part search compatible, and P2 will not find in a search.
So they can start with P2 if they like, but names like P2c8x32A are google open. c8 for Cores:8
So how would you feel if his secret code name were TurboProp?
I'd say it wasn't a secret anymore.
I do like the name, BTW. And it dovetails nicely with the way Turbo mode was implemented in the SX: one instruction per clock, instead of every four clocks.
I have always assumed that the next Prop would be called "Turboprop" or "Turbine". They are just natural.
"Ramjet" is not at all suitable as a ramjet jas no rotating propeller like parts.
The Prop 3 is then left with being "Jet" perhaps. But where to go from there?
As for having a google searchable name I guess searching for "Parallax Turbine" would work well as "Parallax Propeller" does now. Besides there would be an alpha numeric chip name for it as well.
I would not worry about "boyish" names like Propeller or Turbine. We are living in a world of far more stupid names. "facebook", "youtube", really.
Phil,
Can't be sure if future Parallax chips will rotating parts (conceptually) or not. But if the Prop3 were to abandon all the ideas that make a Prop a Prop, multiple small processors, round robin access to central memory etc, then it would be a totally different beast and could have whatever name suits it.

Why not an interesting name like, Weyland?
(from the Aliens movies)
Prop II: SuperProp
Prop III: TeraProp
Prop IV: HyperProp
Prop V: Meh, I'll be gone by then -- or too senile to care.

It probably depends on how things are going.

(Bob is sort of like JavaScript)

Chip has a secret code name?
Well, he has been invisible for an extended amount time .... without any ill effects of course.
I do like the name, BTW. And it dovetails nicely with the way Turbo mode was implemented in the SX: one instruction per clock, instead of every four clocks.

Suits it nicely.
The whole spinning / cogs / circular motion thing is only going to be even more relevant, given the new analog capability.
If TurboProp is used, and there becomes a Prop3 in time, what name might be usable then? Time to plan ahead! I know, you guys most likely are.
-Phil
Of course, loads of Ram and uncommonly fast for Prop3. Right, RamJet
"Ramjet" is not at all suitable as a ramjet jas no rotating propeller like parts.

"RamJet" screams "throughput" with no rotating parts to hinder the flow. Of course, it may require a boost to get started.
-Phil
There are also names like PlasmaProp, WarpProp, QuasarProp (a mouthful), etc
I dont think RamJet fits after a TurboProp. ScramJet has the same problems.
Anyway, it does not matter to me. I will use it whatever its called
This would serve to maintain the current perception among engineering "managers".

Anyway "Turbine" still sounds great to me.
