I was too young to have attended the West Coast Computer Faire, (I was born in 71), but have done my homework,
and we try to keep the "feel" of the expos very much like what you have encountered.
Yes, Listening to Chip talk about PropII is very Wozlike. :)
(Would love to get them both in the same room. )
I am back from my vacation, and I thought I'd give you guys a sneak peek (or at least a teaser) of some of what I will be showing at UPEW:
- Morpheus (new pcb revision)
- Mem+ (new pcb revision)
- Morpheus+ (new high end model, with a LOT of new features)
- Mem* (new high end model, with a LOT of new features)
- PropCade (production version)
- SerPlug
- FlexMem
- Propteus
- Proteus
- 7" TFT OEM LCD module with OEM analog board with VGA, S-Video and Video inputs
- 5" TFT OEM LCD module with OEM analog board with VGA, S-Video and Video inputs
- 3.5" TFT OEM LCD module with OEM analog board with S-Video and Video inputs
The Morpheus boards will have new VGA and WVGA demos. I will be uploading a new 800x480 Morpheus WVGA driver RSN :)
PropCade will hopefully have a nice loader and a ton of games loaded.
I hope to have touch screens running for all of the above displays, but that depends on the PCB's working on the first try, plus having time to write the software for them.
Oh... and more new products I am not ready to talk about yet :)
There are a couple of things I have to finish (including VMCOG) before I can write the FlexMem driver; and I will have to test the next PropCade protos.
This revision of PropCade has two RJ45's, so networking PropCade's is as easy as daisy chaining them with cat-5 / cat-5 cables! If there is time before UPEW, I'll see if I can port Battlez0ned from Hydra to PropCade.
If there are no problems with the new proto's, I will order a production run of PropCade, and they may even arrive before UPEW :)
(More consulting work --> less time for drivers etc)

@Rayman: I'd be up for seeing your home SMT techniques, but, naturally,·feel free to do whatever.··I·enjoyed your PSM demo/video, but anything would be appreciated.· And sales pitches are okay.· I used to buy computer magazines principally for the ads (just don't strong-arm the audience to buy a time-share condo or something).· And regarding profit, as the saying goes, "Do what you love...and the money will follow."· Then there's another saying, "Famous last words!"· Oh well, the truth is probably in the middle.· My brother-in-law goes to various medieval events and takes the role of a merchant selling his·wares, which basically pays for the trips.· If you're·coming close to doing that, you're doing well, and you've laid the foundation, experience-wise, to take advantage of whatever other opportunities (cough, propeller 2, cough) come along.
@Bill H.:· Your display·options sound really interesting, along with your hardware/software driving them.··I'm diggin' that 800x480 WVGA teaser, though all the screens you mention seem interesting.··I've been eyeing a 7" version that TechToys (.hk)·offers, though it's kind of salty.· Recently, I've been using·wide 7" screens (though not WVGA), but only·with TV drivers, which means they have the·little board taped on to do the composite-to-panel conversion (though the ones I'm using don't support VGA, unfortunately).· Another thread today on the forum apparently indicates that Parallax is offering a 7" screen (up from the former 3.5 version).··I like the 7" wide-screen form-factor (such as WVGA).· Although they're not quite as wide in terms of aspect ratio as 16x9, I think it's a happy medium.· Seems Google's Android is starting to settle on WVGA, too, for the most recent version/phones (though not 7", of course).
Hope someone makes videos of you·two and the other guys' and gals' presentations as was done in the past...for us poor folks that can't attend (due to being across the pond, lack of proper commitment (ha-ha), or whatever). · Anyway, thanks for your posts.··*Update* Okay, others are interested in Rayman's SMT tips, too.

Heck yeah! I'd love if you did a preso on DIY SMT soldering. Honestly, your products are so cool, they pretty much sell themselves.
I have more presentation ideas than time. What if you did:
Analysis of Propeller Memory Map
Companion chips for the Prop (Using the FTDI, etc.)
Accelerometers, using and choosing the right ones
Propeller Programmer resources
Intro to binary math
Graphics and Graphics Displays on the Prop
I could keep on going :)
This is fairly inspirational. Maybe members can volunteer for presentations?
I would be happy to do the memory map analysis with a short lecture and Q&A session.

May you create something useful, even if it's just a hack.
I made it to the West Coast Computer Faire a couple times back in the day. That's where I first got my hands on computer music systems (The Passport SoundChaser and the Alpha Syntauri). That changed my life.
Maybe as an homage to Jim Warren you should get around the expos with a roller skate on one foot.

OBC, I'd like to reserve a space for myself. My better half is researching airfares and it might take a week or so to see if we can find something 'right.' (She's a big time frequent flier wonk.) If that doesn't work out I might cancel, but I want to make sure there's a spot for me if she can get me there cheap. (She's really good at that.)
On edit -- OK I figured out the online registration.

Apropos of nothing, but I booked a room at Staybridge online and got the same rate as the special Expo rate (without mentioning the Expo). Not sure if that means anything.
Place this into 'Google maps' and it will put you right on top of the Staybridge hotel.

...hopefully there are better signs from LoneTree Blvd. to the hotel. If you haven't been there before and especially if you are coming in at night to unfamiliar territory it can be difficult to find.

OBC - I will also be available for to/from airport transportation if necessary, so put me down as a driving resource.
As far as 'demos' are concerned, I have at least two things to show, but a small table or portion of a table should be adequate for both of them.
Edit:
Another quick question... assuming that there will be Sun and the weather will be good, is there a chance that we could have an outside table setup for a demonstration using Solar Panels?

Because there is a "limit" on how many tables we can actually fit into the room, we're gonna put in as many as we can,
then ask folks to "be friendly" and share space. To date we haven't had issues with this approach, although it may
change when the numbers double again. :)
Made a couple updates to the UPEW 2010 Points of Interest Google Map. One edit was to add the free "Celebrate America" event going on nearby. For those staying into the dark hours at Parallax, we may be able to see fireworks from the back lot.
Another point of interest, right off of Lonetree Blvd just as you are leaving the hotel, is "Mels Diner". They are a 24/7 coffee/breakfast/lunch/dinner any time of day kind of place for that craving in the middle of the night.
If you try to Google it and goto the street view, you can't see it because there is a truck in the way.
Go to Google maps, and paste these coordinates into the window and you will have a green arrow right on top of the building.

If you are arriving on Friday we'll not have access to the UPEW spaces until around 5:00 pm that evening. Aristides and the education team are running a Propeller course, and earlier the same week we will have an ARRL Educator's Course.
This means limited access except to OBC's crew and anybody OBC arranges to have on-site as an OBC "friend" for setup.
I am even considering an outdoor tent with A/C at this stage due to the size of the crowd we are expecting.
Minor correction on a detail pertaining to the outdoor tent - it will have a misting system but not A/C. We'll keep a QuadRover out there as a welcome committee for other robots or outside-based demos.
