@Jazzed, let's hope so! It made for a pretty ugly drive back and forth. Almost didn't make my flight! Got stuck talking to Andy and Steph, and well... let's just say I was pleased the traffic was light.
Can we please get everyone's forum handle on their badges? Even if only written on by permanent marker as they arrive?
And it would make sense to have the badge printed double sided, because it often flips and as I am not transparent, it can't be read from the backside

I'll drive up from San Jose - I can pick anyone up from SFO / SJC / OAK if they need it (just PM me). It's about a 2 hour drive. Do you have to drive through Harris Ranch to Rocklin? I forget...
The drive from SMF to Parallax (Rocklin) is about 35 minutes unless you arrive on Friday afternoon, in which case you need 45 minutes. Back to SMF airport on a Sunday afternoon takes about 25 minutes. Not too far and there are alternatives to renting a car (Super Shuttle is one of them).
@OBC: Hmmm. This is about when our crew starts getting nervous about the fire marshal limitations. Let me know when you hit 150-175 people because we'll need to stop further signups. 150 is pretty close to our capacity.

No sweat.. The RSVP cutoff is 150. We're over 100 now.. :)
I just registered. After only a few months with the Prop, the enthusiasm of this forum has me flying in from DC. I look forward to meeting all the people behind the posts.
Yeah, I think it will be great. Although the first West Coast Computer Faire was in 1977 (4 years before I was born ), this seems like the 2010 version. Reading previous posts that described Chip's FPGA of the Prop II sounded like a very Woz moment.
By any chance were any of you there for one of those early expos ?

That's fantastic! The Parallax expo (UPEW) is a very special event.
I know you'll find it worth the trip.
Had some fun with Google Maps at lunch at starting a "Points of Interest" map for UPEW. Any comments or other places to add? I will keep updating it as desired. Right now, I have the following:
SMF Airport
Parallax
Both Fry's locations between the airport and Parallax
HFE Electronics (a surplus electronics store)
Harbor Freight
2 nearby hobby stores
Staybridge suites
Home Depot
Galleria Mall
Thunder Valley Casino
Hi Andrew,
Nice work. I noticed 2 minor points. One, there is a
in the msid= of your link that I had to remove to get it to work. And two, there are 2 listings for the Fry's near the Sacramento airport.
You can also add Thunder Valley Casino in case anyone gets out of Parallax with any money left. I don't plan to, if they have their discount again.
Al
If you would like to be identified with the expo while traveling there is a "Expo_Car_and_Bag_Logo" pdf
on the first thread. Print this out and tape to your bags, or put it in your rear car window.
* If you are looking for a ride.
* If you are willing to provide a ride.
* If you are meeting someone at the airport.
BTW, There are only 11 RSVP spots lefts! See you at the expo!
Many thanks to Jen of Parallax for creating this logo!
A while back I PMd you and also asked you on this forum if there were any spots available to do a presentation on "The why and how of multi threading in an assembler cog". This would be based on my PROP RTOS contest entry. As I had not received any respone (perhaps there is no interest) I have not proceded with the presentation as it will be quite a bit of work, and perhaps all for naught. Or perhaps you had not seen my requests. Anyhow, please let me know, as I will need to get moving on it. Also, I had offered to help with setup as I will probably arrive on the Friday.
The speaking positions are not filled until the morning of the expo...
We ask that all who are planning to speak find the whiteboard at the expo, please write your desired time. (20 min)
and plan to be flexible as these things almost never go right on the time.
All speaking slots are "first come, first serve" -- If you arrive late, and the 10am slot is taken, then you'll need to
take the next available time slot.
Does this help?? :) Always glad to have folks who are brave enough to present! :)
The time is immaterial to me... I just did not know if you were keeping a list of presenters, and all slots were full. Now that I know there is room, I'll sign up like anyone else!
P.S. I would like to donate my $100 winnings from the contest to the Red Cross collection you are taking up.

I was at the 4th West Coast Computer Faire in 1979. I hope to make it to the 2nd UPEW (my first).

I'd like to have a go at a presentation and demo on "The Why and How of Assembler Mult-Threaded Cogs" if there is still a spot available.
Cheers,

Well, you are gonna have a good time. Last year was a kick, particularly Sat night, where we just kicked back and did stuff until very late.
