One of the things we discussed at Elektor Live was getting together with users from the UK in the UK.

I've just registered to be an exhibitor at the Maker faire and am wondering just how many Propheads there are in the UK and how many would be interested in attending.

It would be great to share knowledge with each other as it was at Elektor Live.

It's next year March 13th & 14th

More details here....makerfaire.com/newcastle/2010/

Regards,

Coley

    Hey Coley,

I'm interested in this Maker Faire, having been part of the event in the USA.

What makes it interesting to me is to see the various machines and tools that people bring to the USA Maker Faire. Many of the key participants (like ShopBot - neat stuff) would hopefully contribute to the UK version the same way. Or, their Euro-counterparts should be present. This event includes a wide variety of interests from electronics to crafts.

Possibility we'll join the event. Just returning home now so the only thing I really want to do is see the family and organize my workshop for the next project. Oh, and the work piled up when I was gone. I've got a number of small projects hanging around and some new products to share with you shortly.

But back to your question - if we're seeing a bunch of Propheads then we'll be there one way or another to support the fun from the side.

I'll be going, but that was a given anyway, especially with it being on home turf, but not everone knows that, so I thought I'd voice the fact I'd be going also. :)

How far is it from london (is there an airport?), what the connections. North-east italy/slovenija is well connected to london and also very cheap with low cost carriers (sometime so cheap that you pay less flying up an down every day than sleeping in the hotel). I have 2 airports flying to london (Ronchi dei Legionari and Brnik) within 50/90 km from my house

I'd really like to attend such an event. I have some many (unfinished) projects. I could even finish some for the event... If I do not have to be in the lab with the students I'll attend. but I'll only know in a few months, though. But count me on!

    Newcastle International Airport www.newcastleairport.com/
Newcastle is situated roughly 290 miles North of London, I wouldn't recommend travelling by road or train best to fly if you can wink.gif

    @Ale,

I'd love to see your pPropQL in action could you bring it?
I still have a QL somewhere in my garage tongue.gif

Be great to see you both there....

Bring plenty of diarrhoea tablets. When I worked for Racal I flew there in the morning for a meeting with BT Syntegra, returning in the afternoon, and started feeling ill when I got back to Reading. I was off work for two weeks.

@dMajo or anyone flying into London
Newcastle is very easy to reach from London by train. Trains leave every 30-minutes from Kings Cross and take ~ 3-hours. Newcastle Central Station is very close (<300 meters) to where the Maker Faire and Science Festival is taking place.

Anyone flying into Newcastle Airport can take a Metro train from the Airport to Central Station. The Metro trains run every 10-15minutes and the journey takes about 30-minutes.

Anyone looking to stay for the weekend both the Jury Inn and Holiday Inn Express have hotels very close by.

I can only fly to London, so I think I'll take the train.

Edit: Am I in the "Indie crafters" group or on the "Mad Scientists" one ? Too much reading of girl genius means the second group is more likely lol.gif

Ops: It is a weekend, so I think I will have no problem to attend.

Coley, Maker Faire have listed some of the makers exhibiting and I see your Hybrid is listed smile.gif

I was at a recent Dorkbot event in Newcastle and there's a lot of local interest being generated so it will be a good weekend.

    Hei Pals,

I will be unable to attend because I am assistant at a lab for students during March (leaving of Friday returning on Monday...). The real boomer is the lack of a direct flight to Newcastle from Basel-Freiburg airport :-(. The best would be if I could fly to Edinburg and then get the train... Doing London-Newcastle is a no-no :-/

So I will send (as soon as I finish testing, board done and soldered) a CPLD board to Baggers for his pPropQL. And I hope to get a bit further with the QL IO part (video works).
    I'll keep you posted.

Its a shame you can't make it, I was looking forward to seeing the pPropQL.

If you can get a flight, Edinburgh to Newcastle is about 1.5 hours by train with trains leaving every 30-minutes.

Every combination is >8 hs total... the train is maybe the best on, though. I'll still try to get a quote for a train train journey.
