Dr. Jim's Customer's Project

mallredmallred Posts: 122

With permission from one of our customers, here is the project being built by him.

We thought you might take interest in this.

By the way, we have had zero complaints from our customers.· Those who are actually working with our products have found small bugs, which we have fixed, but nothing major.· They are very pleased with what we have done so far.

Thanks,

Mr. Mallred

What is it with you guys? What is that exactly? Why is it interesting? What does it do? Why is what it does suited to learning and not programming? Is it really that hard to expand a bit on these posts.

And what exactly did they actually do with that product?
Admire the warm color of the LEDs and how nice and smooth it's drawing current from the power-supply?

Ok I read the post, looked at the pictures but can someone please tell me what is it?

At first quick glance at the thumbnail images I thought it was a coffee dispenser.

If it's one thing that MIT should patent, it's a new category of vagueness.

Ok Im generally a nice fella, I try to give the benefit of doubt...
but really you cant just post vagueness and pics of a big metal box with a Smile load of props only showing some text on a screen and expect
to be taken seriously, especially after some of the "Dr's" articles.
For me seeing a box with what looks like 8 props in it I would expect to see Johnny 5 or some seriously amazing video on the fly or the controls
    for SpaceX,LOL
You really need to post more then some vague words or pics...
I just dont know how you expect people to you seriously. Look from our point of view. If I did the same what would think of me? Probably either Im some
amazingly smart dude or Im way off in outer space with a cult following.
PLEASE BE MORE SPECIFIC...if you cant maybe you should hold off on posting until you can give greater detail

That's where I'm at.· I don't want to just ridicule and pile-on but geez, that post begs the question, why did you post at all?· I mean if you are not able to post details because they are scarce then you'd be far better off to just keep working rather than post the equivelent of:
"Here's·some circuit boards stacked in a metal box that prints words on a TV.· Someone is pleased with it and we fixed it's bugs".

Really.· MIT rebuts every attempt to keep these threads 'professional' and 'non-sarcastic' with posts of ever decreasing value.· I'm not sure I've seen a company attempt to purposefully look so foolish while at the same time suggesting they are worthy of respect.

It's got to the point where every time I hear 'Dr. Jim', I envision some wild west snake oil medicine show.

edit - I think the only thing that would have made those pictures better would have been for the customer to be in them with one of those black bars superimposed over his eyes to protect the innocent :-)

HERE IS AN EXAMPLE OF A PROPER METHOD OF HOW TO PRESENT A PROJECT:

    http://forums.parallax.com/showthread.php?p=831833

So, I say we all let this thread die. It is not complete.

This does bring up a good, and important topic.

FORUM MODERATORS, and how the parallax forums are starting to become so popular that we need a few dedicated, and reserved moderators.
Then that moderator can lock threads like this that need more work by the thread creator, which can then be unlocked when they are proper.

@Clock Loop, so, you are suggesting that Parallax, should now implement a "thread police"? We can only post if it meets your specific requirements,
or have you guys formed some sort of loose committee which will grant posting privileges? This sounds very dangerous to me, and I never would
of thought that something like that would even be brought up by the members of this forum. But, then we have a lot of new members, maybe
they do not know what this forum is all about.

Nah, you didn't notice that I said "reserved moderators" this means that those moderators would only act in extreme cases.

Every forum has moderators, the point is to keep junk posts from drowning out the good posts.
(and to move posts that don't belong here) (like this thread should have probably been put into the sandbox area)
Even I posted new threads that were probably not needed or could have used more effort on my part.
And ideally, posts wouldn't be deleted, just locked until the issue that it was locked for is resolved.

Oh, if you put it that way, then I guess Dr.Jim, mallred or both, would be one of those "reserved moderators". If you are into that control
thing, then my suggestion, would be the only way to do it correctly. But, I get the feeling that you have something completely different
    in mind.

I think I saw such a thing in a TV recruiting advertisement for the Navy. The unsuspicious-looking front-loading clothes dryer weaves its way up to the beach under the cover of night, beeps a few times, pops open its door, then out jumps a couple dozen Navy Seals armed to the teeth, clearing land mines, rescuing hostages, and darning their socks.

I almost signed up for duty right then and there.

Wow, perhaps having moderators is not a good thing then... you may have missed out on digital audio! (that's never good)

I'm not sure it's metal... take a peek at 006 - almost looks like acrylic with the sawn edges and shininess.

I use that threaded rod building method all the time ;-)
