I'm working in robotics and industrial vision systems·in the automotive industry around the world. I've seen it all (or may be the most of it...) from simple solutions to the most sofisticated high-tech stuff. In 99% of all cases the simple solutions are working best and most reliable over long periods of time...
Another benefit of my solution is, that the sync between the telescope and the dome works as well, when the telescope is not perfectly centered in the dome. With a solution of an absolute positioning, the scope would be lined up with the slot in the dome only in two positions (180 deg. to each other)
