2x16 LCD gone black

Fellow Stampers..

I have been using the parallax 2x16 lcd (with backlite, off) in a small application with a BS2PE. Recently the display has turned all black when I turn it on. Is there a reason for this? Is the display finished? As far as I know circuit has not changed, voltage source is good. I have also reloaded·the program on Stamp.

if this is a parallax serial lcd then you can put it in test mode and check for the parallax name to appear, confirming the lcd is good.

Paraphrasing from Parallax DOCS:

If you don’t see the text at first, try adjusting the LCD contrast by turning the pot labeled “Increase
Contrast” with a screwdriver. Turn it in the direction of the arrow to make the characters show up darker the other direction for lighter.

I tried adjusting the contrast and it fixed the problem. I had forgotton that trim pot since it is hidden
underneath after mounting. Surprisingly is was cranked all the way to one end and I had been using it for over a year with no problem.
