Just going through some of my "Nuts and Volts" and found an article that some might be interested in that
could pertain to the Propeller for a custom video application.

Can't read it unless you order the back issue... I'm going to see if it's elsewhere...

    Kaos Kidd,

You can also check a local library... I would scan it in and post it myself, but I don't want to get into unauthorized reprinted
material issues. You can also do a Google search for.... "Keith Jack" Video ...Which I believe pulls up one of the books
already referenced about video in the "Propeller chip" forum.

    http://www.video-demystified.com/

The article in Nuts and Volts is a very condensed version. Personally I wouldn't waste $$ on a back order magazine, but if
you know what specific issue you are looking for and know where to find it (i.e. the library) then it might be worth a look.

I ordered that backissue from them (it was Jan 05, but the Feb issue was already out), I was dissapointed with the level of detail provided. I found online refrences that did a much better job at providing the nitty gritty.

That's distressing. I ordered N&V's January/February/March of 2005 back issues on the 18th. They had already sent me April as a come-on. I haven't seen or heard anything about any of these being sold out yet from them. When did you place your order and discover this, Paul?

    Later!

I ordered the Jan 05 issue in Jan 05 because I couldn't get it from the newsstands because the Feb issue was already out on the stands (not out of availibility, sorry for the confusion).

You might try to get the annual CDs. They are a better value.

Video DeMystified certainly looks like an excellent reference.· Seems to be a must get for anyone that really wants to use video as a hacker.· Seems to include all the formats.

IMHO the book Video Demystified is too much. This book tries to concentrate too much information in a single book. It looks more like a 'reference' book than a guide for learning about video signals.

I have read better explanations (easier to understand) in many electronic magazines and probably there would be good explanations on the internet too.

In designing the Propeller's video circuit and TV object, almost all know-how came from this site:

    www.ntsc-tv.com

The information there is very thorough and easy to understand. The only thing I had to look elsewhere for was how to modulate the broadcast signal. This site should be all you need.

BTW, to generate the broadcast, you take the baseband and AM it so that the bottom of the sync pulse is maximum amplitude and the white level is minimum amplitude.

Do I really need to use NTSC or can I use a color computer monitor?

I happen to be one of the less than 1% that don't own a TV. I find I waste signifcant amounts of time when one is around and by going without, I read more and think more clearly. I hate to admit it, but I sometimes cannot talk coherently on the telephone while watching TV.

Of course if it really is the best solution, I may make the ultimate sacrafice as the cost of a TV is about the same as another monitor.

    Hi, Chip!

Could you please confirm that the mentioned URL is still has a value?

The site looks weird and out of real condenced technical info, so I'd prefer to read Video Demystified...
