Like many forms of chinese mercury, they probably arrived wrapped like christmas candy. Mmmmm... yummy.
ElectricAye,
Do you have a source for that picture. I know the Chinese have some awful environmental problems but there are also natural reasons a river could be red like that (I'd be surprised if this river were naturally red but I don't think we should just assume it's from pollution).

So, anybody know where to get a mercury tilt switch anymore?· The smaller, glass-bulb (sort of like a neon bulb)·kind like they used to sell at Radio Shack?
As an earlier posted stated, "6 years later"...
So I wander into Halted, the local surplus warehouse in the SF south bay looking for more mundane stuff when I spot these:
Be careful with those things, break one open in your pants pocket and you just might lose your ability to read Tarot cards or perform Vulcan Mind Melds.
In their MSDS sheet, under SKIN CONTACT/Chronic Exposure: "may result in psychic disturbances..."

Can we pry it out of your teeth, too? Probably lots of mercury still in there that hasn't yet leached out.
FYI, they arrived in a small envelope, no problem. Fast 7-day ship to Los Angeles!
And the EPA didn't have a black van parked outside. Did they come as a gift or commercial?

The source is actually from this CNN article:

Okay, so I sorta lied. It's purported source of color is not from mercury but is instead from a dye that got dumped into the drainage system.
And you're right that natural materials or organisms can cause rivers to turn red.

And they had them priced at $0.95/ea. The box had two 100 pc unopened packs and at least another 100 loose.
I bought two to play with.
