"only reward that member's post nearest the 100k mark which actually contributes to the knowledge and understanding of forum members"
This would be a good idea. But I think there will be problems. Someone mentioned problems on other sites (ebay?) and there are probably more examples. What I'm worried about is getting the forums flooded with post that only mess up the forums.

Our moderators will be looking for off-topic and meaningless posts. We're trying to encourage members to share their knowledge and experience; not fill a disk drive or see how much traffic our routers can handle.

Thanks for the clarification, I feel better knowing only a rightfully deserving person will earn the gift certificate. May the luckiest person win! (Personally I hope a neophyte with a very limited budget snags it)

just make it a random post on the day of the 100,000 post (obviously a non Parallax employee who has a legitimate post)
IT guy is it possible to throw some logic into forum to do such a thing?
(just an idea)

Yes, it is quite easy to do a random drawing from the posts made on the same day as post 100K. One of the hats I wear around here is database admin. I'll leave it up to the Head Honcho (Ken Gracey, in case anyone is thinking of starting a lobby) to decide the exact methodology. I'm just the conduit of information. (maybe I should get galvanized?)

Jim,

·· Your database admin hat isn't the one I like most...I prefer the one with the ears.· You know which one I mean!· =)· I almost wish on days when you wore it, your avatar would automatically change so everyone else could share.

John,

Removing the post counter is an **excellent** idea. The counter will remain off-line until we cross the 100K mark. Thank you.
Well, then you should probably update this page.

I don't understand what you mean. What page should be updated and why?

Jim;

On www.parallax.com/html_pages/company/whats_new.asp the splash about the contest still has the following:

[quote]Simple as that - only one rule to follow, nothing to sign and no attorneys lurking around to spoil the fun. (You can view the current message count on the bottom of the forums.) To join in the discussion, follow this link: http://forums.parallax.com

This is the last paragraph before the RoboNexus blurb.

Then again, if this is your biggest problem, why were you posting at 11:00 PM or so last night nono.gif

Thanks John. I see the problem and I'll correct that shortly. The 11 PM post is almost a normal thing with me. People around the office are no longer surprised to see email generated at 2 or 3 in the morning. Insomnia is a crewl mistress.
