Might? What a tease Ryan…

But I am only 23 mile from your office. I could save myself the shipping cost and nail biting waiting for it to be delivered.

So GearHead, are you a new member, a ghost member, or is GearHead a shell member meant to disguise your regular identity? The reason I ask is you have 6 posts, all of them to this thread.

Could be new, could be old. I know I signed up sometime after the forums moved from Yahoo, but couldn’t find my login in the members list. Could be old age or just too many user names to remember.

I signed up again when as I stated in one of the post when I saw this posting. And just to set thing straight, I think Parallax has GREAT products and support. It’s a shame that the Red-I product had to be discontinued. Interesting that it is still in the 2005 catalog, but anyway I look forward for the release of the internet kit or whatever they are going to call it.

Forgive us for occassional catalog errors with products that go out of production -- especially those beyond our control.· And as you can imagine, the 2005 catalog wasn't printed on January 1st of this year; in fact the 2006 catalog will be wrapped shortly so that it can go to press.· Designing and printing a catalog like ours is not a trivial process.· And when all else fails, the web site is updated almost daily.

Gearhead, Welcome back, hope you'll find Parallax's solution all you could desire, and from what I hear the Red-I was pretty spiffy, they discontinued it prior to any interest on my part for internet connectivity, so I don't know first hand.

Well yesterday wasn't the day. Maybe today. Imagine: a company not actually formally announcing a product until it is actually ready. Novel concept smile.gif On the minus side, this policy does tend to prevent that wonderful thing called "backlog" on the sales charts.

I, for one, appreciate the disipline shown by Parallax marketing and development. Having resources bouncing all over on the "project of the hour" doesn't help a whole lot. Releasing products before the organization (not just production, but sales, marketing, support, shipping (cartons, packaging, etc.) and everyone else) are ready may help a few customers, but creates problems for most.

As an insider I am pushing for us not announcing anything until it is actually ready to ship -- but that probably won't happen, we like to let our customers know ahead of time.

About yesterday, a key member of our Marketing department who actually makes and posts those announcements was out due to a family illness.· In the FWIW category, I did see official training on the company calendar today (that too, should have happened yesterday).

In the end, gang, we're human -- and respond accordingly.· Most of our customers treat us with kindness and like friends; those who do nothing but gripe and criticize cause us to withdraw (pre-production announcements, plans, etc.).· The choice is yours....

    Nice successor to the Red-I.

How many storage bytes occupy the special registers?

    regards peter

There are 100 general purpose variables-

There are the email registers, the status registers, the UDP registers- these are all IN ADDITION to the general 100. The first 20 of the general can be written to flash memory for 'defaults'-

The 100 general purpose registers are specified as 64 bytes each.

But how many bytes are the special registers? There is no mention

    of that in the document.

I have uploaded a javelin class for the Pink here:

    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/JavelinCode/files/Javelin%20Stamp%20IDE/lib/stamp/peripheral/web/

because the Pink is not just for basic stamp and SX.

The manual states the first 20 general purpose variables can be written to flash.

Does this mean they are standard written to ram or always written to flash?

If the first, how to write them to flash?

If the second, is there a limit on the number of write cycles?

    regards peter

They are not automatically written to flash. You must cause them to be written to flash from the update variable page (see the documentation)- I am not aware of a limit on the number of write cycles, but I will confirm that fact as soon as I can.

The purpose of the flash is for setting certain default variables (especially things like the SMTP server address, return email address, etc...)

Correct, the module can be used with the Javelin as well.

I noticed the first 20 variables can be written to flash via the Pink software,

but it is not possible to write/read these to/from flash via the stamp, correct?

Are the flash contents then copied to ram when the Pink powers up or reset?

    regards peter

I ordered mine last nigth. Did it ship yet? Did it? Did it? Did it? Did it? Are we almost there yet? smile.gif

Probably won't be firing up right upon arrival, but it provides a way of getting my wireless iPaq (and any other PCs, etc.) a way to view (and possibly control) the model railroad suff I'm working on. The $40 off was too good to pass up.

I had trouble ordering online last night....emailed my "contact" ;) and hopefully I'll see it next week. (orders are fast coming north to the border....but you can't whip a dog team as hard as you used to....so it takes some time once it gets in to Canada!)
