Hello,

I believe Parallax is about to release it's new internet development kit. I wanted to find out if the new kit would be compatible with Visual Basic or not.
I guess this can be clarified only by the Parallax design team.

I would really appreciate a reply from them.

Hello Voranik,

The Parallax Internet Kit would be released next week and at that point we will post all the documentation in our website.

The module is compatible with the BASIC Stamp microcontrollers and can support more features than the discontinued Red-I, allowing the microcontroller to access a network without requiring a PC.

More information to come next week.

Regards,

This is great news indeed.· I can hardly wait!
I hope Parallax does their usual excellent job of documentation, and illustrate step by step, how to use this new item.· Perhaps an article in Nuts & Volts showing how a BS2 can talk to another BS2 via Internet connection.

A neat feature will be:
You will be able to send (and recieve) UDP messages via the module (think stamp to stamp communication via the web)-

LOL, is that it?

Come on, how about a PDF of features? Or better yet a launch date?

mmm, only a few days left this week. Parallax has really dropped the ball on internet/ethernet accessories. I hope some resources and energy will be diverted into this area now with many application notes etc

Careful what you say eblancke!!

Parallax doesn't drop the ball....the manufacturer of the previous kit stopped making them which left Parallax 'holding the ball'!!

I think they (Parallax) have said before, they will no longer announce 'potential' debuts of new products in fear of backlashing by customers if it's delayed longer than was said....in this case they gave us a teaser and it's not out yet...hopefully nobody dumps in their sock drawer!!
The fact that the company head honcho gets on this forum and converses with the customers is an indication of how well involved he is with the goings on (no, i'm not affiliate or paid by Parallax...Smile kissing doesn't hurt though!)....

If you want a product that's as well documented as all their other devices, then give them the time....there'll be plenty more whiners out there if something is dropped on their doorstep with no instructions.

If I've overstepped...sorry...hair trigger this morning...no more coffee for me! haha

Agreed, no ball dropping here. Parallax has the best documentation and support for their products making it easy for beginners like my self, able to do things I thought were not possible. Furthermore, like their quality support, they bring us new products as well. It is my opinion that Parallax is a industry leader in its class.

Gee, I wonder why Parallax doesn't like to comment about release times.

Geesh, try to give a person a "heads-up" about a new product and get slapped in the face for it.

Whats scary is the new photo is 1M in size (compared to 31KB for the original), how many frames did you use Ryan?

I can't wait to order mine... I like how it will automatically change colors! Now I am not a product designer, but don't you think you should have included mounting holes on the board :)

OK, just came up with an application idea that needs web access capability, can you at least give a hint of the abilities of the new internet kit?
I want to see if I should keep searching the web for a product or if you will have one I already trust soon.
Where would any announcement/preannouncements be on the parallax site????
Getting itchy, and a whole weekend ahead of me to think about this!

If you guys keep whining, Parallax won't provide any advanced information about any future products. Quit you belly-aching and shut your trap, they are under no obligation to provide anything to us, whether it be a specific product or a release date. If you force thier hand into keeping quiet about future releases, you will invoke the ire of those of us willing to sit in quiet anticipation for a new product.

Whatever! I was only hoping for more information on the product. It so happens that I read this posting just after I purchased a siteplayer development board from that other company. I can wait for the Parallax product and test with that as well.
