This Ole Junk Shop

I've been joking/threatening about posting pictures of one's work area
to see what kind of "junk" other people have lying around.

I have two usable "rooms" each 9x12 in a shed outside from the house.
One I have set up for a woodworking shop, and the other I have set up
for an electronics shop.

Holy Cow Beau!

·· Those are some HUGE breadboards!· Looks like you've got yourself quite the workshop there.· That's what I need.· Now that I'm in warmer climate, it seems more feasible.· Where I was before, you'd freeze 9 months out of the year working in one!

·· I see you've even got BUCKETS of parts UNDER the bench!· Is that your IN box, or your OUT box?· tongue.gif·· Anyone else want to share their workspace pics?

A bit less tidy over here, I'm afraid. The lab's about 20'x8', with benches down one side, shelves on the other.
This is the hardware end... It could do with a tidy, but it's never the most urgent thing, so it just sort of gets deeper, until I snap and declare a day of action, and excavate a usable section again.

There are two there... The one on the left I bought as one complete board. The second is one that I have "pieced" together
little by little buying the SBB modules separately and using double stick tape on a dy-clear sub straight (similar to Plexiglas)

I have a 1500 Watt heater that works nice in the winter. I'm thinking about
getting a window unit AC for the summer.

These are left over (-- read unsorted --) from when we moved last summer. If you notice there is a
"bucket" right behind the keyboard FILLED with nothing but unsorted IC's. Occasionally I'll rip through
a few handfulls and sort them.

I just cleaned....This is a good day. My breaking point is when I spend about 20 min looking for
something, and then end up finding it right in front of me. THEN it is time to clean! yeah.gif

Paul,

I think one thread is showing organization, while the other disorganization.

This is my fault, I didn't want to step on any toes from the "original" organization thread.

Id show a photo of my workshop, only I dont have one. Being an apartment dweller doesn't afford me the space. I just use my roomates artist bench (its closer to a draftsman's table) locked in the horizontal position, with my boxes of components on the ground on the wall side. One day I'll have the space, one day. I could kick out my roomate and use her room but its not worth $650 a month to me.

Chris,

Yeah, if it's to neat, I can't remember where I put everything... at least with it messed up, if I'm looking for something
there is a good chance of finding it somewhere in the pile.

Orion,
You said "I don't suppose you have anything that can stand up too ferric chloride".... Ahhh "liquid rust" ... do you
want to contain it or dispose of it? For containment, glass or polypropylene bottles have worked well for me. If you
want to dispose of it call OSHA or the label on the package you purchased it should give you enough information for
proper disposal.

Steve,

I get 10% !!!

As I've mentioned before, my wife and I live on a boat. Workshop? What workshop? I don't even have the luxury of using my roommate's artist table. For me it is the only table on the boat. It is also the dining table, the cocktail table, the computer table, my wife's quilting table... Well you get the picture. It's hard to tell through my work, but if you look closely you'll also notice that the table has fiddles. Fiddles are 3/4" high strips of wood around the outside of the table, and also the center section since the leaves fold down, that keep things from sliding off at sea. So I don't even have a flat surface to work on.

Sorry about the lousy image quality. I spaced and overwrote the original with the thumbnail image. Bad boy, Jim. Bad boy.

Nick,

There's the one next to the calendar girl, that must be the sunglasses one? Then there is one hanging on the pegboard above your nut drivers. It looks suspisciously like a car freshener you hang from your mirror. If so, what does Sponge Bob smell like? Or perhaps I don't really want to know.

Beau,

Disposal of the ferric is a piece of cake so far... My county has a hazardous waste pickup day once or twice a year. Most people bring in paint, household chemicals, and other mildly toxic stuff. Last year I dropped of a gallon of the stuff to them and they had no problem with it. I'm sure they didn't fully understand what they had, even with it labeled. Next time may be a different story. My main problem with the stuff is it stains EVERYTHING, and finding a good surface that will clean up nice is not easy.

Chris,

Dell, the electric company, and my internet provider have me on there VIP list. LOL. That room is also nick named the network operation center. There are 3 more desktops, 1 laptop, and a pda that are in other places in the house. The nice thing is that CPU's don't seem to be increasing in speed like they have in the past. So much for a new machine this year, the money will have to be diverted to more stamps. :)
