I had a Model 5150 IBM PC with an AST Six-Pack Plus card and it did take a little while to count up to 640K; pee, smoke, and coffee break sounds about right.
Older windows would take 10 or 15 minutes to load up everything before you do work without it being super sluggish.
I want to scream though everytime the new windows 'freezes' because something is updating.
