SD Card HUB

Hello, does anyone know where I can find something like this, only with about 5 SD card ports? I am wanting to upgrade my laptop's memory, but have found that my only option down that road is SD cards and flash drives, all devoted to ReadyBoost. Thanks in advance!

Ugghhh! SD cards may be Flash memory and they work really nicely for cameras and for embedded data logging but they are so super slow for PC use. Most SD cards and Flash drives for that matter do not report sustained write speeds or any speeds at all, except maybe the theoretical speed of USB2/3 (USB3 - ten times faster! V30 will give 30MB/s write sustained but Class 10 is only 10MB/s and does not specify for how long.

You can get 5TB laptop internal HDDs, isn't that better than an external thingy dangling around waiting to be knocked out in the middle of a copy?

Interesting, I don't think I've seen an SD hub. USB hubs, yes, and multi-media to USB adapters, certainly.

Per Peter, speed is likely be an issue.

I have a drawerful of micro SD (TF) card adapters leftover from various camera drones. I wonder if you could use 5 of those with 5 uSD cards in a 5-port USB hub.

Hmm. maybe I will just gut the USB2.0 HUB that I have and mount it to my laptop's rack. I have it on a cookie-cooling rack to prevent overheating and other issues.

Flash memory wears out, too. SD cards were not designed to replace disk drives.

Yes, some of the cards use wear leveling. But there's usually some critical regions on the card that end up being updated frequently.

And, is it worth it?

Yes, that's their intended purpose. Camera pictures/video for example.

But as additional RAM (swap disk)? Not for me.
