Activity Board - adapt breadboard to a soldered board

I've got a project working well on an Activity Board. The project must run in a rough environment however and would like to ditch the breadboard. I am using the XBee port and the ADC device, so it would seem that adapting the Activity Board would be easier than adapting the XBee and ADC to fit another board. I see the Proto Board Kit: https://www.parallax.com/product/40010. Should I just fit it into the Propeller inputs of the Activity Board and let it sit on top of the breadboard?

What about the Circuit Overlay Board as an option?

Adafruit carries small PCBs laid out like the breadboard on the Activity Board complete with power supply rails. You could move your project to the PCB and solder it in place and use jumper wires soldered on the far end to 0.1" male headers that will fit snugly into the I/O pin, xBee, ADC, and supply female headers on the Activity Board. Use double sided tape to fasten the PCB to the Activity Board.

If you really want to keep the breadboard, use short solid wires to make the connections. When it's finished and tested, use hot glue to permanently fasten the wires and parts in place.

Thanks for mentioning that Chris, I did not know that existed, but might be a good fit for 2 projects that I keep swapping between on my Activity board.

  • That overlay board is awesome. I highly recommend it.

    Hey, thanks Mike.

Both of those are good ideas and I see that I can readily source the Adafruit boards, here in the UK.
  • Thanks a lot guys! Perfect! I don't know how I missed the overlay board while browsing the catalog. That's exactly what I was looking for.
