How will Parallax make these badges if they won't have any QFP chips for a couple of months?
Sometimes the forum speculation becomes belief among people, so I'd like to clarify and expand on a few details I've previously discussed. Without more information I can see why the worse possible case seems like a very likely possibility.
First, it's very common for our web site to show that we're out of stock. Not only can this change day to day, it does not reflect the chips we've put on allocation which are effectively removed from for-sale inventory. Chips can be allocated to our own manufacturing (like the badges, which are already built), for customers both known and unknown, and for projected orders. These chips are tucked away for non-web sales, physically in the same warehouse. Bottom line is that sometimes we're not out like the web site says we are.
Next, some of the "allocated" chips could be used to free up customers who are in a real bind. Often [and we've been here ourselves many times] we may only need a small number to do a prototype run, build a test hardware fixture, etc. We can help these customers! You just need to contact us and we'll try to make arrangements outside of the on-line ordering system's ZERO inventory. This isn't meant to complicate things for you, but to help us serve a wider variety of customers than a single customer who could wipe out our inventory for a few months. This was mentioned a few times above and we're ready to help.
Call me personally (916) 625-6801. This is my Google Voice number and it usually forwards to my cell, but if I'm not available I'll receive an e-mail message with your call instantaneously. Or e-mail kgracey@parallax.com.
Ken has also mentioned before that Parallax do final testing on the packaged chips on a regular basis from untested chips that do not show up externally as inventory.
In addition to all the above, some of us hold our own inventory and can come to the party and help others out if there is a critical shortage. We are a tight community on this forum always willing to help others in any way we can.

What the Smile. Im dying over here!!! My business revolves around these chips. And if I dont get a supply soon I will go bankrupt.

Have you called Ken? They usually have some on hand for thier kits.
They may also have some untested units that they can process.
As mentioned above a few times, you really need to contact Ken or the friendly sales people at Parallax. They may have chips available to meet your requirements but you won't know until you talk to them.
The stocking date is for general availability and large quantities...they may be able to fill smaller orders now. But you need to call!
Just a quick update. Our expected batch of October chips is here and testing is underway.
Our current back-order level is larger than this batch; all of these are already spoken for (both Q44 and D40). So yes, some customers with the longest-standing back-orders will see chips this month. But no, we will not show stock on hand on our website this month. As Ken mentioned above, many more wafers are in the works; we are expecting another batch to test in December and a double-batch in January.
Our sales experts tell me we are currently filling orders for both distributors and direct purchasers by the date the orders were placed. If you have an existing order in place, and need to know if it will likely ship in October, December, or January, please feel free to call (888-512-1024 or 916-624-8333) or email sales@parallax.com.
Yes, new orders for DIP chips placed today would have an anticipated mid-January ship date. (If we have any wiggle-room in the future, due to production ahead of schedule or unexpectedly high yields, we can only fill those smaller orders if those orders are actually placed, so if you need chips, please place an order!)
But bad news that the delays are considerable, particularly since we expected chips to be freely available this month, and there had been no advice from Parallax that this was not going to happen. The lack of keeping us informed is particularly concerning
Yes, many of the orders filled this month are going to distributors, so please do check with your favorite distributor for available stock in the coming weeks. But keep in mind that they may have back-orders for their incoming inventory, just as we do.
We will continue to post expected dates for having un-allocated stock on hand on our product pages to the best of our ability (and that is the best place to find that information), but please understand that these dates may continue to shift as customers continue to place orders. So, if you need Propeller chips it may be advantageous to place an order.
If you need Propellers right away, it seems saner to just order from Mouser, Digikey, or others if they have actual stock on hand. Otherwise, deal direct with Parallax as Parallax likely has to honor customers on a first come first serve basis.
The supply houses may just accumulate orders until their Purchasing Department feels they have enough to get a good price break from Parallax. That means an extra uncertain delay.
One has to realize that these supply houses don't actually desire to carry any inventory. What they want to do is to move the most volume they can with the minimal amount of investment. In part, they do so by "one-stop shopping". But they will bump big orders and in stock merchandise to be filled first so that the accounting department can report healthy monthly sales figures.
Looks like the D40 has a big demand, no chance it would go out production?
Not a chance.

Ken when it comes to the D40 version, how does it arrive at Micro Center? I bought one today, was wondering, especially after explaining to the capable associate there about the issues surround the Prop.
I also looked briefly at the PEK. Now that I know what I have here, I decided to buy thatsecond D40 Prop purely as a just in case ideal.

Good news that P1 volumes are on the increase!

I guess parallax would know if that shipment to them is on schedule?
