Easy Bluetooth Repair

Does anyone know where I can have my Easy Bluetooth Module repaired? I am not sure what happened. The last time I used it about a year ago I packed it in a static free bag and put it in it's own storage bin. I just pulled it out today and when I hooked it up I get no LED and it is not found when trying to run a discovery on it. Really a bummer because I really liked this unit and Parallax no longer sells them. If I could get it repaired at a reasonable cost I would rather do that than to have to splurge and buy an RN-42 Module.

I think there are lots of inexpensive Bluetooth modules which will work with the Propeller.

I haven't used these myself but hopefully someone will chime in with some good examples.

Yea, I was just hoping that maybe someone might be able to save this for me. It was not cheap and I really hate to toss it. Although there are a few useable parts, certainly not enough to cover the original price!!!

That module is actually made of 2 boards so make sure they are firmly connected together.

Are you sure you have it connected correctly?

Andy, what setup and code did you use?
I used my Basic Stamp BOE board and tried a few different sample programs that use to work but do not now. The power LED does not even come on any longer. Also, when trying the Stamp program that lets you control a Boe Bot using a phone, it was not broadcasting a signal.

    Did you check your batteries?

Yes. I have used it several times in the past. At one time I was using my Laptop to control my Boe Bot using the sample software that Parallax provided.

Not using batteries. Boe Board is powered via an 8V Wall Wart.

I just ordered one of the $10.00 eBay ones. Just curious, what kind of distance can be achieved using an RN-42? Is there any advantages of using the RN-42 over the eBay ones?

EDIT: I think I found the problem. It looks like I "got some solderin" to do. The black header that attaches the bottom piece to the top piece has some how come unsoldered. Hopefully that is what the issue is.

When it was stored did you have anything on top of it?

No, It seems like it came loose after pulling it out of my BOE board too many times. I DE soldered the pins and soldered new ones. All is working now.

Yes, There's a guy in the north west who does CCTV installation who also has had success repairing Easy Bluetooth Modules.

That's where I'm going to be sending all my Easy Bluetooth Modules for repairs from now on.

It's good to hear you got it working Andy.

Duane, what keeps happening to the Easy Bluetooth Module that causes it to go bad other than the problem that Andy had? Is it a design flaw?

Genetix, I know very little about the Easy Bluetooth Modules. I was just pointing out to Andy the answer to his original question was himself. I'm pretty sure Andy's forum name is based on his work of installing CCTV systems in the north west (NWCCTV). My post about "a guy in the north west" was supposed to be a friendly tease. I don't have any Easy Bluetooth Modules.

Daune nailed it!!!! That is what I do. I started this thread prior to the entire part breaking in to two pieces. Once I did that it was an easy fix. Thanks for the laugh!!!!!

Great idea!!!! I wonder how many were actually made versus how many need to be repaired. I might however end up going broke. I do not think people would want to pay the cost of repair plus shipping when they figure out they can use the $10.00 eBay modules!!!!!!
