Talking to Dave, looks like we have at least 6 committed, ( and I use that term loosely), and 4 that are looking.

I will tell you what I am bringing. A Parallax Quadrover and a Parallax Quadcopter.

We will be holding a no holds barred figure eight bot contest. Any BOT. Any control, IR, Pre-Programmed; etc . Fastest time, wins. Activity Bots will rule!

The prize will be determined. Parallax may send some items out for prizes.

    More info to follow.

    Jim

I would love to see that quadcopter!

Ken just gave me another challenge . A walking figure 8. Anybody have Penguins or Toddlers they want to enter?

I still find the Best Western Hotel the cheapest @ $98.00 per night. If someone whats to split a room, 2 doubles @ $107.00

I got this through Orbitz: 380 Winter Street Waltham, MA 02451-8700.

I'm hoping to go, but honestly, with the workload and projects I have coming in now, it's 50/50 if I'll be able to be there or off travelling to who-knows-where. I'm pretty sure I will be able to get to the MIT Flea Market on 8/17, as well as the one on 7/20, but those are only "hit & run" destinations... :)

It would be great to meet several of the forum-dwellers here! I seem to live in an electronics-geek free zone here... :)

I'm glad I didn't find out about this event after it happened! I've been busy lately, and not keeping up with the forum.

I've just signed up, as I live about a mile or so away (in North Waltham), and if needed I can bring a 6 foot folding table as well.

Ok, I decided to sign up. I'll be riding my motorcycle up. My sister lives about 1-1/2 hour away so I have a place to crash and keep costs down.

I'll try to bring a few projects I have worked on. Not sure of they will all be Prop based, but micro-controller based for sure.

Hope to see more people sign up soon.

I also have a Projector I can bring if it's needed. I also have a screen, but may be difficult to bring on the bike.

Not a day after I signed up, I found out I have another event about 1,000 miles away the next day. No way I can make both, so I have t bail out. :-(

I really wish I could do both. I've always looked forward to these types of events and have been ale to make almost all of them over the last 6-7 years. Been to CA for two of the expos. To Chicago for two of them and countless ones in Ohio.

    Dave,

Could you publish the attendees that have signed up? Eventbrite does not seem to have that info.

    Looks like 6?

Yes, I can't wait for it to start in 3 weeks from tonight. There are currently 6 people who have paid, 8 including my wife and I. I don't feel comfortable posting the names of those who have signed up because I haven't asked for their permission. I have a couple of soft commitments from engineers in the area that I know from an engineer's group I'm involved with. Now that it's just 3 weeks away I'm going to talk to a couple more people that I know. SO, if you've been waiting to sign up until now... time is running out. There is a very hard cut off of people for the space we've rented so once the tickets are gone, you will be turned away at the door (but your robot can stay because the fire code doesn't include them. :) )

A reminder, Friday night snacks will be provided and lunch Saturday (most likely all you can eat pizza and drinks)

There are several prizes from the stuff Parallax is sending. Also, I'll throw in a bunch of motors from my Kickstarter for everyone who shows up!
Prizes will be awarded to the best figure 8 (free style, anything goes, any size), presentations, and projects. Basically, lots of food, electronics, robots, and friends for the weekend! :)

Anybody need to share a room Friday night? Prices are $125 up for a single, but $150 for a double.

I'm going to pull the trigger on my room Sunday, so if anyone want's to share, let me know tonight or early Sunday morning.

What speakers are planned for Saturday?

Hey David, the speaker schedule will be fleshed out Friday night and Saturday. I've always like how OBC ran the Expos this way because typically people are a little bit shy about presenting and need a little bit of encouragement. The second reason is that I've often seen where a discussion Friday night or during the day Saturday has lead someone to present on that topic. The latter reason was why Rayman once gave a talk on how to make your own PCB boards and that was how I learned how to make them.

I think we would all be very interested to see what you're working on and learn about it. Do you think you'll be able to make it to the Friday night hang out?

    @vanmunch

Get plenty of rest this week! Running an Expo is exhausting. Figure on doing NOTHING but putting your feet up with a pot of coffee Sunday!

All the best to you guys! You'll have a great event!

Those of you who can't get that far east are welcome to our Orrville, OH event on August 30th @ 10am.

@vanmunch, Please do it again next year. I didn't prepare for this year. Ohio has OBC! MA is closer to NY. I hope I'll have something worthy of sharing next year. Have fun!

It's been my hope from the begining that others would pick up the ball in their region and create UPE events!

Come on mid-west and south-east! It's not that hard to create a fantastic get together!

I've been working on the command line tools for propgcc. I've never even used SimpleIDE. I've also worked a little on the propgcc libraries and I've written pretty much all of the "cache drivers" and the XMM interface code. However, no one seems to be using XMM since none of the Parallax boards except the C3 can do it out of the box.
Do you think you'll be able to make it to the Friday night hang out?
It's possible. It turns out that I'm working in Burlington this week so I'm not that far from Waltham.

Of course, we can not do justice to your spectacular Expos, but when we see what happens in Boston, we can certainly use that for planning for next year.

Hey Larry, you don't need to have anything to show, just bring yourself. I didn't have anything that worked when I went to my first UPE, but I had a blast!

    Dave,
With regrets I won't be able to make it Friday night (unless I can rearrange some things), but will be there first thing on Saturday. I can't wait !!!

Also, my offer is still on to do a presentation about using the Propeller for near space ballooning flight controllers. I'll be ready if the masses want to hear about it.

Yes, Yes! The masses demand it! :) We'll give you extra time to go over everything. You had mentioned once that you would be bringing a student. Will they be there Saturday as well? That's too bad about Friday night, hopefully things will still work out.

Hey Martin, if everything else falls through you all could just stop by and hang out for a bit Friday night and Saturday. It would be fun to see who else is in the Boston area even if it is just for a little bit.

    Dave

As I said earlier my wife will be out of town, and I've been unable to get child care for a full day on Saturday. But I can probably make it for an hour on Friday and a few hours on Saturday.

I bought a ticket so see you Friday.
