Yes, yes... before Coca Cola got busy, Santa Clause was a thin guy and wore a brown or a green suit. But red and while are Coca Cola's brand colors, and children seem to be less fearful of fat people.
Like Coke or not, the brand has much to be proud of since Typhoon Haiyan hit the Phillipines:
Even while Coke sales are declining, the soft drink giant is still putting its advertising on hold to focus on a more important cause.
Coca-Cola announced last week that the company is suspending its brand advertising in the Philippines so that it can donate its entire ad budget to typhoon relief efforts. The company has so far donated more than $2.5 million in cash and in-kind contributions.
I would never have made the link between Santa Clause and Coca Cola. Turns out it's a myth anyway. Santa was getting redder and fatter long before he started selling soft drinks.

That is really a surprisingly stand-up thing from a multinational corporation. I think I'll have a Diet Coke now.

I am sure that the Phiippines will be appreciative of Coca Cola and Warren Buffett. It seems nobody considered what a super-typhoon storm surge might do at the end of long narrowing bay.
But I also suspect that Coke is also attempting to gain back some of the losses to Pepsi ever since Michael Jackson first visited Manila. Pepsi versus Coke is an endless seesaw for turf everywhere. This is just reallocating an expense, it is not costing Coca-cola anything more than they would be spending anyway. The big looser is their advertizing agency and its sub-contractors... they may have a few employees with less in their Christmas bonus. Consider who is really providing the donation.
