...looks like relatively minor changes ex: enhanced SPI (doesn't need bytecount for blk transfer), can write to both rx and tx buffer (not just tx buffer like W5200). Think the main goal might be cost reduction (i.e. process migration, die shrink) - when I asked about the price for W5500 compared to W5200 they said...
