We try to keep extra around when we can. Occasionally it's not possible when sales orders outnumber the quantity we have left and an item is discontinued quickly due to another discontinued component, etc. We do our best to EOL products first and update the product page on the web so customers can grab theirs while supplies last. When we get low I often pull a few to keep in Tech Support for swap outs/returns, customer questions, last minute urgent customer needs etc. We also have a discontinued list for distributors that's constantly updated so they are able to update their websites accordingly. I hope this helps explain the process a bit better. Of course every product has a different reason for EOL/Discon but we do what we can to notify and plan ahead. We'll continue to improve this process.
For instance, you sold blue Scribbler 1's on your Ebay site long after they were officially retired from your website. I bought a few.
Unique case. We had a customer who had about 100 Blue Scribblers, purchased several years prior to the S2 being released. The customer preferred the S2, so I accepted a full return and exchange of Blue Scribblers for new S2 robots.
The ServoPAL uses an 8-pin surface-mount AVR. Aside from a bypass cap and connectors, that's about it. I suppose it would be possible to provide just a pre-programmed DIP, but it would lack the convenience of a plug-n-play solution.
Phil, I'll be in contact with you to see if we can help from SimplyTronics.
If we can make it in lower volume even Parallax will be able to stock it. This way it would be available through the current channels. This could also help SoundPAL in the future since whatever works for ServoPAL should work for SoundPAL too.
Next, we'll talk about the long-discontinued StampMem ! :):)
Oh no. This might be a thread-locking topic, erco! I can't handle seeing another meeting over how to handle the EOL process, especially for products that have been RIP for a long time. Let's hope this doesn't become our next topic. . .
I actually have a vintage StampMem that I have never even tried. A nice pice of Parallax history off Ebay, but I don't feel it's critical to future Stamp operations...
I think we will be able to make it work. ST is already buying components and we will run a small production batch. Even though this is such a small batch we will be trying to make things work for the same current retail price (not easy to keep the same retail when production batch goes from 1,000 to 50 units).
We’ll try to get these done before the end of the year.

I always thought the StampMem's 64K made the BASIC Stamp superior to the Propeller's 32K Hub for specific data applications. The StampMem is one of the most valuable boards used in numerous BASIC Stamp projects, and without it, several humanoids, the TSS, study of Quantum experiments with the QuadLyzer, and even the Fake Propeller Chip would not be possible.
An especially impressive turnaround time considering this very busy time of year.
Feliz Navidad!
Yes, we were able to get these made quickly. Our goal was trying to get them out of "Backorder" as soon as possible. SimplyTronics made a small batch of 50 units and they were already shipped out. They should be available online at Parallax hopefully by the end of next week.
Hi,
If SimplyTronics doesn't want to continue making the ServoPAL, then I may be interested. I own a small shop here in China not far from the Parallax facility in Hengli and can do small quantity at a low price.
There isn't much to it. An tiny13A, 5 SMD passive components, 2 headers, and a PCB. depending on what price I can get here in China for the Tiny13A, It should cost around a buck to make. (estimated)
Let me know if interested.
Thanks,
David
David: You may get some offers from some forum members about their own personal projects if your prices are so cheap! It's nice to hear directly from a China manufacturer.

What is this sorcery you speak of?

...hmmmmm, should I......dare I mention the BSLA!?!?!?
I think we have to beat up on USBEE to release the IP on that one. I have one working one and on dead one. I would like to have two more.

The Parallax StampMem board is a simple data storage device that can be directly connected to a BASIC Stamp.
