    Lunar sats seem impractical.

If you could get a platform up just a few miles and keep it
up there and relatively stationary now that would be very cool!

It seems like something a gifted amateur could pull off.

Small and relatively cheap remotely operated low
altitude communications sats. (well, not really since they are not
actually in orbit) I would think a winged design would be better
that a helio since it could stay up longer.

You could put a wideband rf translator on it and relay all signals
from several hundred miles away back to the ground or to a
similar system at a few miles altitude very far away. Line-of-sight
range between two of these would be incredible. Of course
mountain tops would work just fine also...but there never seems
to be one around where and when you need it ;-)

Sounds like a job for a Chinese farmer.

(Terraced farms and techniques for irrigating at higher elevations is pretty smart!)

@ erco - I just realized that you posted the Chinese farmer links. I have enjoy your posts and links. Although I don't post much. I force myself not to, had to respond to this one. I agree with Holly, a gifted amateur could accomplish the job. You need the Chinese farmer that built his own hands, the one that builds robots, the one that built his 160 mph car, then one that likes propulsion devices, and one into satellites. Mission accomplished.

The Chinese have little experience dealing with cheese, so I suspect working with the Moon would be alien to them.
