A new beginners tutorial

Morning people.

I decided that I wanted to use the VGA port on my Propeller BOE yesterday but it seems that the BOE landing page isn't quite finished yet and has no information about it.
I've now finished a guide about it for anyone else who might have the same problem.

Please feel free to comment / criticize. Any feedback would be appreciated and if it proves to be useful to anyone, I will probably do more in the future

Connecting the VGA connector on the Propeller BOE v1.2.pdf

:Edit - I've had to make some minor changes to the file and I've added version numbers too.
I will always place the most up to date version on here

    Very well done!

    I like the very detailed step-by-step explanations you give. I wish I had access to more info like this when I was learning this stuff. In many respects, a total beginner is the perfect person for laying out this kind of detail for other newbies - to you, it's all new and you have the perspective of what sort of things are confusing to newbies and what steps require a little hand-holding here and there.

    Good job!

    PS. Tymkrs has been doing audio Podcasts for newbies. It's great but it's all audio, last I checked. Maybe I'm just dreaming, but I think your style of producing pdfs, providing pictures, etc. along with their podcast would make a powerful tutorial combination. Maybe you could team up?

    @Nurbit: It may be worth mentioning that the start pin has to be on a pin group boundary (0, 8, 16, 24), i.e. using 4 wouldn't work. This is simply the way the video h/w works.

    @ElectricAye

    Thanks for the kind words. I've started listening to the podcasts. I think they're great but I can only listen to them while driving.
    I find that if I'm sat at my desk, I start doing other things and don't really take it in properly.

    @kuroneko

    I didn't know that. Thanks for letting me know. I'll add that to the file.
    I've also spotted some typing mistakes that need fixing.

    Yep! We totally encourage more tutorials :) The blog (http://tymkrs.tumblr.com) also have writeups of my working on peripherals and sensors that Parallax has from a noob's point of view. I've been analyzing code and showing pictures of the hookups as well.

    Going back to the base pin boundry issue.....
    I read something while I was building my TV output adapter that stated something similar about using specific pins.

    Can anyone explain why this is?
    Why can't I start with P7 if I choose?
    I accept that I can't, I'm just looking for clarification as to why.

    Thanks

    @Tymkrs

    Thanks for the encouragment. I'll be sure to keep an eye on your blog. At the minute I'm reading anything I can to try and glean some more information about the propeller and spin :)

    TV pins are tied to 4n boundaries. The rules are slightly stricter when you use broadcast and baseband (i.e. both have to be within the same pin group).
