We've gotten to here because as a society we somehow decided it was easier to deal with items instead of actions.
So we ban the items that might be used in a meth lab instead of dealing with those that decide they want to be a "cook". We try to ban weapons instead of properly punishing those that use them to maim and kill in the commision of a crime. So maybe the answer is to start committing a few acts of civil disobedience using gavels and law books so the politicians and judges will have no choice but to ban a few of their favorite toys...
