    I am thinking Quad-Coppter related.

Post #8 Matt G. “If we revealed the "who" - you'd have a pretty good idea of the "what"... “
If the other party is Hoverfly we would know the what.

Post #20 Jen J. “I have attached a PDF of the BACK of the flyer I created for the launch of the mystery project.”
    "Flyer" possible hint

Post #23 Beau S. “Not to steal line from a popular food chain commercial ... "Parts is parts" right ? ... lots of parts!!”
    Parts = Quad possible hint

Post #25 Jen J. “Well, I did set it to "High Quality." “
    "High" possible hint

Post #28 Jen J. “I am looking forward to the launch too.”
    "Launch" possible hint

Post #53 Beau S. “One clue ... ok... "batteries are not included" :-) “
"Takes Batteries" and another possible hint

Ken in another post said something like - I'll have the staff talk to Hoverfly - about what I can't remember, then there was silence. I need to find that post.

I am usually wrong what do you guys think. :innocent:

I don't think the chronology adds up. Here's Kevin's first mention (11 August) of the "secret" project -- like they've been working on it awhile:

And here's Ken's post (13 August) saying he's still revising the design:

OTOH, it's not unheard of to get all the cogs in motion to introduce a new product before the design is finalized.

My guess is that the mystery project is a solar powered boe-bot with supercapacitor backup. By skimming through all of the comments, I found that some people have mentioned solar power. One of the hints was "Some assembly required" which pointed to the boe-bot. The comment about "batteries not included" lead to the supercaps. To top it all off, When I visited Parallax, I had a discussion with Mr. Gilliland, and he talked about the solar Boe-Bot.

Wow, I think you are correct, though that "Mr. Gilliand told me about it" may have been an illegal move. I'm afraid to say it, since I advised you otherwise, but I think that you may just have needed permission to post that!!

You know what, never mind, fair is fair. They won't tell you that you're wrong or right anyway, so it isn't a complete giveaway. Plus, you said TOLD not SHOWED or something more obvious. Maybe it was just an idea? I don't know, maybe I need to stop using these forums to think out loud.

I changed the mesage, and will re-post it after (and if) permission is given. I saved the original post as a word document so the exact wording will be the same. I hope this solves it for now.

    bomber,

I doubt that you were given privileged information, and I find it hard to believe that the cat you let out of the bag is the real deal. Besides, if you're denied permission to re-post, those of us who read your original guess would know what the product is. So there's no incentive for Parallax to deny that permission.

Here's a hint to my guess --- just a hunch, not based on any inside information, just clues from the forum. The "Party" referred to by Matt was a Parallax staff member who was outed in the forum by another Parallax person to have a desire for secrecy. And Matt is right: if you know who it is, you will know what the product is -- assuming my hunch is correct. I'm not going to reveal my guess; but if I'm right, I will be able to prove it. Tee hee! :)

Huh, judging by the "Batteries not included" hint, i am going to assume it is a device which uses a lot of power(Large robot)? Or maybe solar? But in the software world, i have heard certain languages be referred to as a "Batteries included" language. That means it contains enough built in functionality to start developing basic programs without the use of more libraries(Of code). Maybe he means the device is not built? Maybe it comes in a kit form... Which would make me believe even more that it is a robot of some sort. Of course this is just mere speculation:)

    Re: "Batteries Not Included"...

Back in the late 50s and early 60s toy manufacturers routinely misrepresented their products in TV ads, things like using trick photography to show a little model car driving by itself up the ramp of a tin metal gas station playset. And they often showed battery-operated toys in action, and failed to mention the toy needed batteries, and that they weren't included.

So the toy industry was more tightly regulated, and the common phrase "Batteries Not Included" was born.

Given the hints -- "batteries not included," "some assembly required," atomic age 50s terms like "flyer" and "launch" -- all points to the mystery product being a tin metal gas station with battery powered cars. Which is fine by me because I wrecked the last one I had. I cried a whole day when my mom threw it into the trash.

Matt is too coy by half. "Solar" powered doesn't have to mean photovoltaic. The sun is powered by fusion reaction; therefore the mystery product is a fusion-powered tin metal gas station, with little BOE-Bots for cars. I'm sure of it now.

Of course not! Even if I were "allowed to" - I can't - it ain't right - nope, not gonna do it. Why, I'm even insulted that you'd even suggest such a thing!

    "Mis-lead"? Probably not.

Matt says I'm wrong; and, being an honest fishmonger and purveyor of red herrings, he would never lie!

But still, given the timing and the east coast connection ... Anyway, if it turns out I'm wrong, I do not plan to reveal what my guess was.

But then there's this (not my original guess):

which will be available in the "middle of September". That's not been any kind of secret, though.
