======================================
(Best Western Norwalk) offered me a special rate of $79.99 for Friday night and $111.99 for Saturday night. I think that this is a $20 discount for each night. All American Suites has offered the same deal.

She also said that she would extend the same rate to anyone who made a reservation by August 21 and mentioned that they were with the UPENE group.

So, now we need to pay for the Expos?

Also, my son wants to go, he is 16, does he qualify for a child's ticket, or is he an adult (tough to tell with adolescents - they swing from baby to adult in milliseconds.)

    Art,

Because he's not 18, his ticket is free.

We switched to purchased tickets this year for two reasons.

    1) It helps offset some of the costs (food, etc)

    2) It insures that folks are "serious" about being in attendance. (ie: UPEC 2010, 129 signed up, 75 showed)

    Registered.

Tough to swallow (I'm a bit of a Scrooge), but these have always been well worth the new price. Thanks for your work OBC.

    Anything on hotels yet?
Also I think I remember something about a group dinner or am I remembering something that never happened?

I just signed up and printed my ticket! What would be cool is if you could also ask for "Forum Name" to make it easy for people to see the others they've been talking to.

When you print the Name tags can you ask for a fourm name or leave a space to Write in a forum name?

    Jeff,

Is there an Event Bright option that you can turn on so that we can see who's registered?

@Robert- When I entered my name for registration I used Ray's (Rays Logic) idea from UPEW- For your first name just enter "Robert (RobotWorkshop)" then everyone can associate you with the forum name.

I've been really contemplating attending this year. I've got a project that will hopefully be all wrapped up by then :)

    Ray0665,

You are correct, there was a group dinner on Friday night and then a few other times over the weekend. I was wondering if anyone was interested in doing it again. I think it was Sailman that set it up last year, but he moved to Florida and said someone else would have to set it up this year.

I was just at the Expo in Ottawa and the 20 dollars was well worth it

Subs for lunch, Pizza for dinner. Free pop and water.

And I also won a Propeller starter kit and one of them new Quickstart boards.

It was a great time and well organized.

The elevator was a little creepy.

Thanks you to all that put the event on and thanks to Parallax for the donations.

    John

Hopefully i can make it to Ohio for the next one.

Registered! I really enjoyed last year and can't wait to go this year! The $20 fee is still well worth it. Keep up the good work OBC!

Everything's on the ground floor at UPENE (not the case for the very first UPENE). No creepy elevators to worry about (except for the people setting up who need to get chairs down from the second floor).

Yes, the elevator at UPEC is a little creepy, I volunteered to ride up/down with attendee gear for anyone who felt uncomfortable. :)

I was betting the thought that no one would leave me trapped in a malfunctioning elevator. :) (Would they??) :)

The one at UPENE is very modern in comparison, and we only use it to move chairs from the original UPENE meeting room to the gym.

Word just in from Jim @ Parallax!

We have a Stingray with the new battery charge pack that Matt just designed up for grabs with a attendee voted "best of show" for your Propeller powered robot.

    Don,

That's a good idea (Ray seems to have a lot of those) - I'm going to have to remember that for next year.

In the mean-time, I guess that I will pen in my forum name on my nametag.

Just placed the initial "heads-up" with our food vendors.

We're going with Fried Chicken for lunch this year.. Should spare us setting fire to another grill. :)

OK by me, Fried Chicken it is.

This must be part of the save the grill campaign.

Yeah, I wish I could have caught that on film.. Bryan is always catching me when I've been awake for 20+ hours or when I'm half asleep after an expo for a photo op. He had underestimated the amount of grease that 100+ burgers created below his grill and the whole thing caught on fire.

Good thing he's a volunteer firefighter as well as an EMT. :)

I remember pizza last year....I don't recall any of it bursting into flames. Chicken works for me as long as I don't have to clean em. ;-)

Looking forward to this year, last year was my first and I had a blast and made some new friends.

Thanks OBC for your hard work!

About the hotels - I remember the Econolodge right at the end of Republic, on Milan, just past the Burger King. Is that where the Friday night pre-expo was held? My son and I will be staying overnight again, that worked well last year.

OBC usually puts the information in the first post. I need to think about booking, so it would be good to find out if OBC has arranged any deals.

I'm holding up on the extended list of hotels due to a "special" check I'm making before posting.
There is an issue a bunch of other NE Ohio hotels, I won't go into here, but it was serious enough to do some research. (Let's just say, don't rent a hotel room in Cleveland for a while.)

Best Western, Norwalk has extended us a good rate until August 21st. (See top thread for details)
I'm comfortable enough with their quality to have them posted now. (Thanks for the assist Doug!)

Ok. We have two recommended Hotel options added to the top of the thread.

Best Western & All American Suites. Both will offer the same rates. Just specify UPENE when you reserve your room.

I've also gotten reports back from multiple sources that Norwalk is clean of the problems presently being experienced by Cleveland. (So you can sleep in comfort!)

@OBC, any idea which vendors are coming? I'm making up a "shopping list". I'll be like a kid in a candy store :).
