VOTE NOW!!!!!!!!!
Make sure to vote in ALL the categories!
Original Post:
I've been thinking about this for a while, so I thought I might as well throw it out there.

Wouldn't it be nice to have an annual online awards session where we give honor to those who have contributed most to the online Propeller community? There wouldn't have to be any ACTUAL physical award, just a massive vote out of nominees for certain categories, the winners of which would then be announced in the official thread. I know that their are Parallax "Star Contributors" but that list is hard to make. This would be an easier-to-win contest that would consist of different members every year.

Here is examples of the categories for awards:

Most helpful member (VIP members will be excluded from this)
Most improved Propeller user
Coolest project made with the Propeller
Most useful project made with the Propeller
User who has evangelized the Propeller the most
Favorite forum member

Most professional Propeller project
Best object contribution
Best Propeller Tutorial contribution
Best PC software contribution (BradC is excluded because we already know he is awesome)

Favorite forum member would be someone who is kind, helpful, and has a real mind for electronics and the Propeller chip.
We would start a thread where you can list potential nominees. Then we will pick nominees from the list and start a thread with a poll for each category. Winners will be chosen and announced.

Also, we could give away a small physical award if anyone knows where you could buy a cheap, small metal Propeller hat that could be painted gold.

Just a fun thought that I thought would be nice to share. If you want to do it, start listing some nominees and I'll get a poll up on my site. (Forum won't support multiple polls in one thread)

Thanks,
Microcontrolled

I think this is a really cool idea. I have always thought there should be a repository list somewhere of all of the projects featured as a "Project of the Week".

Thanks for the nomination Martin. The Propeller has really enabled me to get some ideas out of my head and into reality so I truly back it every chance I get.

I think the most helpful award should be named "The Honorary MG Award".........

Whatever. You have to meet him in person to truly understand his awesomeness.
Tracy Allen is like this too.

@Jazzed: Mike Green is esteemed enough to be the tie breaker for this competition. :-) I had almost forgotten Tracy Allen, but he has done some great things here and he will be added to the list! I'll need some more nominees if we are going to get this underway. You can list more than 1, as this is not the actual vote.

Edit: Just caught the comment about my avatar! Thanks! It's not real components, as a light would have never looked correct if in a picture, but it's a 3D design I made. I wrote out the whole username for my blog's banner, but had to trim it down for forum specs. And if you act now, you can get your very own cool 3D logo designed for only $39.99! Order now before it's too late! :-)

Phil Pilgrim, of course. Without him, all of biotechnology would have come to a complete standstill 3 years ago.

    +1 for that.

I remember we used to be on Corbin's case for spelling and grammatical errors all the time.

He has turned into an excellent contributor, and must have read a few books on writing, or just taken examples from Phil and Mike, and others on how to communicate.

Erco and PJ could have had a hand in it also:)

My vote for most likely to be intern: Micro.

    Micro,

You're much too modest! My vote:
Most improved Propeller user - Microcontrolled

Wow, Micro, this is a great idea and you have our official backing if you need it. This could include web site pages, special recognition with products, or whatever you deem appropriate. Or, we can remain a silent partner with no special authority or influence. Kinda like the UPE events - a bit of corporate involvement could really change the tone and flavor to something more myopic to Parallax. For example, OBC says "pizza is fine for these guys and they'll like it" but our staff would say "can we roast tri-tip and salmon?" Nothing wrong with the latter, but before you know it there will be white tablecloths and assigned seating. They are very well-intentioned and want every event to be the best.

Speaking of the Star Contributors, we're still waiting for Brad (BST) to provide us with a picture. A few additional folks you know have recently been nominated as Star Contributors and we'll contact them shortly too. There's no official committee inside Parallax to ratify these nominations, but it's interesting how our people unanimously agree about inducting certain people into the Star Contributor listing.

    I second that nomination!
Micro also wins for most prolific young propellerhead :-)
(wish I could bottle his tech enthusiasm and give my cousin Enid a dose)

    Dr_Acula
Thinking about avatars made me remember your old one..you know,
the one where you look like a sportscaster :-) I tried to find an old copy just now
using google image search... it never occurred to me what your forum name
is if you drop the underscore! Do a google image search for Dr_Acula and see
    what horrors pop up ..LoL

Seriously, there are so many super forum members here that I would have to
list dozens who deserve an award. I must mention Mike Green though...for best
tech help and most modest, he's always called out as a star of this forum and
    he never takes a bow..what a guy :-)

RossH needs mentioning for Catalina, what a great piece of work...both Ross and
    the compiler!

For forum member who's posts are most eagerly clicked on I nominate Chip Gracey!
I just wish he had more time to chat on the forum....He's so busy making that wonderful
new toy we are all dreaming about.

Now that I have named a few people I feel bad because I'm leaving so many others out :-(

*grin*. Oh ok Holly, this is where all the silliness started http://www.scamorama.com/Smile_bloodbank.html This exchange ended up being a chapter in the Scamorama book (see on the top right of this page http://www.scamorama.com/).

Back to the topic - I'm going to put in a nomination for Gadget Gangster for making the board that has become the 'official' propeller board.

Funny stuff, Dr_Acula. I'm almost persuaded to change my forum name to Billy Ruben. It would be oddly fitting.

BTW, your creation of the Dracblade (available at a very fair price) and your evangelization of retro computing with the same, not to mention your frequent help to those in need and your many interesting projects, deserves award consideration.

While I'm making nominations...if there were an affability award, I would nominate Bean and Martin Hodges. Are there two nicer and more genuine individuals?

Most amusing forum member would have to be Electric Aye.

@Ken: Thanks for your support!!! I'll let you know if there is anything you can do, but putting a link on the Parallax site to the poll will probably be the extent of it. Thanks!!!!
    @Holly: Thanks!
@Ahle2: I've added your categories to the list, thanks!

I am counting up your nominees and will continue to until this post reaches 4 pages, or June 10th, whichever comes first. I may have to extend this if I have lots of repeats/not enough nominees per category. I'll put the poll up then.
