Well, don't sweat the hard time. Everyone knows the world ends at the end of 2012, so your jail time is limited by that. That's when the Mayan calendar runs out.
Either that or the world ends about a month from now. That's when the local school calendar runs out, so I guess there's still room for debate on this one.
lmao, the actual Greek scripture states "end of the age" not "the end of the world", right now we are in the age of Pisces, the fish, the next age is Aquarius, the water bearer, and wont happen till about the year 2100 to 2200, long after I'm gone. I am sure at that time when certain planets are aligned it will do something to the earths gravitational pull. Maybee it will be strong enough to lift us into outer space... OMG.
The radio station has no church affiliation which means you have one man who isn't accountable to anyone and Harold Camping attracts people without any church affiliation and they do what they want. He hasn't been verified by anyone. He debated two people as far as I know but he won't debate anyone else.
There have been news articles online that the majority and most pastors did not believe the world was coming to an end.
How do you punish one man without taking freedoms away from everyone else to believe what they want to believe or to say (freedom of the press) what they want to say? I'm sure there are some good people somewhere but if you punish one person then you automatically make it hard for everyone else and you risk totalitarianism and facism because one person abused their freedoms.
This is the danger of listening to only one person. How does Harold Camping take advantage of someone if they weren't willing? If they were willing to not listen to other people who said, 'no one knows the day or the hour' then aren't they mutally responsible? The fact is that everyone wants instant microwave food or answers and research that is done on the internet isn't independent because you have a whole society where people are quoting other people on the internet and submitting the quotes in their college papers instead of actually going out, doing independent research, reading, thinking for themselves, etc.
You can choose to have a free society or a non-free society. Locks also keep good people out, btw.
punish? nah, seems just as powerful to just mock them and their ridiculousness and hold them to the review of public opinion. soon their 'position of authority' will whither to all but those too stupid to be saved from themselves no matter what else happens.

I went to a baseball game because I didn't take him seriously. 45,000+ people went. If people didn't buy the end of the world then why take it seriously? It isn't like he made you ashamed of believing something. I'm just tired of people bringing it up. What he said wasn't true and that makes him a false teacher.

The "Great Months" are about 2,000 years long so we won't pass out of the Age of Aquarius and quit hearing that stupid Hair song until about the year 4,000, give or take a century or two, just as the Age of Pisces lasted for 2,000 years.
This is the coming of the Age of Capricorn, the Age of Capricooooorn, the Aaaage of Capricoooooorn...
We may be stuck with the stupid Hair song for awhile.
California preacher Harold Camping said yesterday his prophecy that the world would end was off by five months because Judgment Day will actually come on October 21.
That was very predictable, unlike his predictions.
The thing that really ticks me off about this guy was that I read his Family Radio Ministries was accepting donations last week. Now if you really believed the world was ending why bother accepting money?
Update: Ugh I just read his drivel. His claim is judgement day and the rapture happened, but only on a spiritual level. So come October 21 the sentence will be carried out. Now if it is all over but the pronouncement of judgement he might as well turn off the lights at his station, give back the money, and retire.

From what I read, Harold Camping was told to 'cease all prophesying about the apocalypse' by his church years ago so when Family Radio says they aren't affiliated with any church then that part is true because his family and 110 people left his church. He has already rejected their authority and what other people go to school for so he is basically training people to follow him instead of any church because his own church wouldn't permit it.
After may hours of programming my propeller based "End of theWorld" calculator has spit out this
1010 10101 11111011011
At first i did not know what it was but then after some calculations this is what I've come up with
1010 - binary for the 10th month October
10101 - binary for the day 21
11111011011 - binary for the year 2011
heck, according to m'soft's sql server the end of time is 12/31/9999 -- so I think I still have some to get in some fishing.
don't ever forget the wisdom of George Carlin (who I paraphrase badly here) when he said that at some point in the future, the earth will need non-biogradable plastics, but the earth could not make that by itself, so it created man instead so that we could make the all the plastic the earth would ever need. see its all according to some grand design (but given some of what we've witnessed lately, intelligence may have little or nothing to do with it).
Life is like going on a carnival ride with your girlfriend. You'll enjoy the ride better if you don't gaze too close at the rickety bolts holding it all together. Nor should you ponder too much the person with their hand on the safety switch, leering at your date, and knowing that both your fates depends on someone you'd never let anywhere near any female you know or care about..

My girl friend may not be so young but she does not have "rickety bolts holding it all together":)

And the average person made $23,000 according to the article also quotes that Harold Camping didn't make any money according to the paperwork:
