Ken, We are at Folsom Lake, and it is raining at the moment, although it was decent earlier.

I'll forward John the invite for the webinar.

Ken, sorry we missed you too. The folks there did treat us well!

We'll see you in the AM, and catch up.

I'll likely wind up in the courtyard.. (outdoor, center patio area) late Friday evening.

It's a good place to catch up with folks in a less busy atmosphere, as the expo will be hopping. :)

Watch the forums, generally a thread kicks up when folks are heading that direction.

    OBC

From Saturday 10:00 PM through Sunday 8:00 AM is also a little less hopping, at least until the DJs show up.

Is this webinar the one listed on the eclipse.org webpage for today?

I'll be arriving Wednesday afternoon. Look forward to meeting everyone.

Won't make it again this year, but we have a great excuse. We'll be hiking with the twins (in backpacks) through Chaco Canyon, Aztec Ruins, & Mesa Verde.

    Have fun at UPEW!

    Have fun erco!

I was just trying to think if there was anything interesting I could do for a presentation at the Expo (beyond plugging my products)...

Maybe a short guide on how to do SMT PCB assembly at home?

Hey Rayman, I can plug one of your products for you! The hacked Ativa photo frame which I am bringing to demonstrate how to hack consumer 7-inch class LCD devices for displays will be powered by one of those propmod-us modules I bought from you when you discontinued them :-)

localroger, I'd like to talk to you about that photoframe... I've opened one up and think I have the datasheet for it, but I still don't understand it...

I guess I have so many products now that I've forgotten some... What is a "propmod-us"?

I lost the thread here in the internet somewhere about "what will you do at UPEW"....

so, I'm going to yack about that topic here instead. I've been asked to build a "race start christmas tree" for this event: http://www.ncderby.com/

that could be a worthy use of time. I've a BS2 version of a "stripped down version" of one that I've been building with my daughter (she likes to do electronics with the old man -- which thrills me to no end).....

I have some colored floods on order....and am maybe wondering about using the parallax I/O board as a lamp swiching device (though I've been advised to use SSR/triacs to avoid mechanical failures)....

    is that a worthy project?

Cool! My company will have an entry in the derby. I probably won't have much to do with it, though, since I'm just a software guy.

They're getting the biggest guy to be the driver. :-) Which is fine by me. I trust the guys I work with but I might not want to literally trust them with my life!

I guess I have so many products now that I've forgotten some... What is a "propmod-us"?

The Propmodule-US is a 40 pin SMT module in DIP format, with the 20-pin headers on .7 inch centers. It has a fairly wide input switching power supply to get the 3v3, a micro-SD socket, resonator, and 64K EEPROM. I was able to mount it in the frame so that the PropPlug header and uSD card are accessible without disassembling the frame.

I am coming prepared to present the frame and also discuss general techniques for hacking similar consumer devices with 7 (and possibly 8) inch LCD's. You will not get far trying to feed the LCD what it needs from the datasheets that are available, but if you let the original device controller generate the LCD sync you can hijack the video lines which use fairly standard signaling. No two devices use quite the same timing but they're similar enough that at this point I'd estimate an 80% chance I could hack any random consumer device in this class with a little profiling and a few hours writing a custom driver for it.

I'm supposed to remind Jeff to schedule me a time to do the presentation when I sign up.

    @localroger:

Yes, I'll make an announcement around 10:30 or so for speakers to come meet with me briefly. We'll decide on the times then. This makes things very flexible and easy.

I'll be closing out sign ups this morning for badge printing...

All those who miss sign-up can still pay at the gate, with those proceeds going into the American Red Cross Fund.

I'm soldering together some last minute stuff in my hotel room right now...
Anybody know if solder smoke can set off a fire alarm?

LOL, excellent question Ray! Keep that window open and the fan on cool and you should be fine. I will also be finishing some last minute items tonight!

On a side note, I will have a few items for sell, trade, or to be given away to but won't have out. If anyone is interested, I will have a few jars of Kester no-clean solderpaste (expired but still 100% good) to hand out to anyone that needs some, two large solar panels for sale, a few LS1220 barcode scanner engines for sale, and a various Polycase enclosures to trade for ???

It can... I would follow the advice above. Maybe hotel room detectors are smarter than home ones are, but I have set one off before.

    Mike:
As you know from my thread in the general forum, I am currently stuck using a Macintosh, running OS 9.2.2.

Is there a way to view a webinar in this enviroment (I am not aware of one)?

Will the UPEW 2011 webinars be promptly posted on the archived webinar page, as WMV? So that I may watch them (a day behind).
