Here's a thought: If you sealed the jar-lid fasteners with silicone, screwed the jars on, equipped them with treads/vanes, and added flotation above the rear wheel, your robot would be amphibious!
This project reminds me of the local robotics competition we had at jvs. I entered in the slot car comp with a hacked together, cheap plastic hot glue and super glue rat car. Outa 20 schools and over 400 cars I got first place....shoulda saw the looks of the faces of the guys that custom cnc'd all their parts....priceless! And I won $100!
