I love those jar-lid wheels, PJ! 'Very clever, indeed! Even thought they're plastic, I'm sure Erco would approve. :)

BTW, how many did you have to drill before you hit the exact center in two of them?

And you built that without isoisolators?!?!

    Oh, the humanity!

Nice treads! No plywood. Erco would not approve. :)

Ingenious repurposing of scrap plastic objects. I wholeheartedly approve UNLESS you're selling your blood to buy the Stamp, BoE & Servopal. Tell Ken what you need, he's generous to a fault!

Great example of "found object technology". If it was me, I'd use JIF peanut butter lids, cuz "choosy mothers choose JIF" !

But only lids from Creamy Style peanut butter. Don't want too much vibration! ;-)

Cool. Now you need to add wheel encoders using part from an old mechanical mouse!

    PJ Allen,

Good work on the wheels. You got them centered on the servos really well. What are your future plans for your bot?

    What is U-Glu?

I'm staring at a newly-emptied Altoids tin and wondering what I can do with it.

Gosh-darn you & ajward for getting me thinking!

Careful with that "thinking" stuff. It 'can' be dangerous! <smirk>

    P.J.,

Great robot. I am a big fan of peanut butter jar lids. I glue a circle of padded shelf liner to them and use them for work stands on the Scribbler and S2. I have bags full waiting to be used. I like the work with what you've got idea! Will you Ping-ify fixed or with a servo?

By the way, if you do try encoders, The lids should work great for a printed wheels per erco here - http://forums.parallax.com/showthread.php?109024-Scribbler-Wheel-Encoder-Project&highlight=Scribbler+encoder

Thanks for the tip on the center square. I think David Cook's Robot Room is a great website of resources, but I never saw that. Thanks for the link.

Neat PJ. My mind is trying to envision some odd situation where the jars would still be attached. Maybe some sort of floating/swimming bot! Yes... it's getting late and I need sleep.

    Cool work.

I've seen a robot like this recently. Hmmmm.... I don't remember the jar lids though. Nice touch!

Here is My first Tail Drag system.

    InaPinch1.JPG

We have to many different terrains to cross in our home, If I want to travel any distance with a Robot.
I had to resort to store bought Tail wheel systems.

I guess I will just have to wait for You to elaborate to see whats in a name...

P J Allen, Nice project! It's all in the color. Blue for creamy and red for chunky. Other colors will need a brand switch. I think I've saved up about 20 or more of these jar lids but have yet to make the scrap wheeled robot. I did a project with the upper half of a humanoid mounted on a jars top lid.

Agreed! This is looking really cool P.J. Love the new and improved tail wheel too. Of course, I liked the marble. The old ChiBot Alpha had a kitchen door knob for its "tail wheel."

Hey Minty Boy! You beat me to using the Altoids tin... er... Altair-IV tin, notes my friend Robby.

BTW, exactly how can a robot even THINK about moving with just one PING? I thought 10 were absolutely necessary in all cases!

Looks good with the Ping attached.
And the Tail wheel looks like it has no problem with the dreaded Carpet to Tile transistion.

    @PJ,

Hope you are back on a robot of some sort soon. I have enjoyed the flurry of robotic activity.

As far as "letting the perfect become the enemy of the good," I plead guilty, at times at least. Thanks for the kick in the pants!

I am still a bit jarred when I see your young and troubled Bill avatar. I miss Gomez...
