How about: "Spin Server"

It is short, you can use "SS" as abbreviation and methods like ss_load() ss_send() ss_config()

"Spider" has a very distinct meaning when it comes to the internet:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_spider

It may cause confusion among those familiar with the term.

It looks like the most popular name, both on this thread and at Parallax, is "Spider". (Congratulations Yendor! We'll be sending you a beta unit, once we build them.) But, that doesn't mean that we are done. We know we want "Spider", or something representing a spider, in the name, but we still don't know exactly what to call it.
There are two aspects that we need to decide upon. First, what aspect of spider to use, e.g. should we call it the arachnid, black widow, or just spider? Second, What would the full name be? In the very least, we will need to say that it is a network (or web) server. Try to think of an entry that we could use in a catalog or a search results page. Think of titles like the "arachnid network system", or the "spider web server".

Now that I understand how it's receiving power (via a servo header), Propeller NetPAL might be a good name for it.

Awesome!!! - Many thanks for the opportunity!!!

I still like the "Parallax Spider Web Server". Kinda spouts its own fangs, so to speak.

To soften the menacing Spider, which I can still see the cool ad and marketing campaign in my mind... what's the thoughts on another 'backronym": "S I L K"

Spider Internet Link Kit - kinda goes with a Parallax naming convention and has spider references, but the "Spider Web Server" seems more appropriate.

Thanks again! I have a static IP that is dying to be woven by Spider!

SILK is a great name for the product! Too bad the Soybean Milk producer already claims trademark rights.

Thanks!

I believe there's a 'scope' applied to trademarks, as long as there are distinct product differences.

For example, if it was a beverage parallax was making (i.e. a much needed energy drink), then there would be an issue if it was called 'silk'.

An example, I've seen software products called 'Silk'. A google search also shows several companies using the 'silk' name.

Another example: Parallax, is a restaurant, a comic book villian, a band, and the really cool company we've come to know and love.

Interesting topic to find out for sure, though!

[edit]· Hmm, now 'Spider Man' I·would·think would be·an issue, though...
