Jazzed: no plans for bytewide flash :-(
Unfortunately, not finding the time at the moment for the current projects. I just want the fastest sram interface for emulations and the like.

I am thinking about retargetting the RamBlade smt pcb to be·(2) 1.3"x1.3" pcbs as follows...
One is a prop, eeprom, xtal - exactly a prop proto board equivalent for the center section only (one set of 12x12 pins)
One has a 512KB SRAM, 1 microSD socket, 1 secret miniature chip (don't ask)
One is a proto pcb (12x12 pins)
perhaps one is a power supply and USB (FT232RL) PropPlug equivalent
smaller pcbs to plug in
vga
keyboard & mouse
others???
Purpose... one prop pcb + one sram pcb = 1 RamBlade. It can plug on top of a prop Proto board. You can stack them. You can rotate them. You can build a latch(es) on the proto section.
PCB concept below·- left to right is... proto, prop/eeprom/xtal, sram/uSD, power/usb
Your comments please???

Looks great - hope the stack doesn't get too tall Would make packaging harder and a tall stack might be unstable - guess we could turn it on its side then.
Maybe the base board is the prop protoboard and you could use guy wires (stays) · Come to think of it,·that would look pretty cool, like a work of art·

Clusso I will take at least one assembled and one blank one still waiting for instructions for the Tribalde I want to order a blank board but how much more if you solder on the SMT stuff?
Sorry mikediv. I need to reply to you :-( slack me! I am concerned I may not have another microSD socket - I posted one to Dr_Acula last week and I will not be ordering more until I have the RamBlade - stack version pcbs done.
Jazzed: I haven't actually placed anything - just "plonked" the footprints onto the pcbs anywhere.
I am looking for SIL wire wrap (i.e. pin stake) sockets with longish wire wrap pins to make the connections. I haven't checked anywhere yet and am sure they will be available. This way you can solder underneath and have the socket on the top ready for the next pcb connection. Just cut the pins not required.
You (all) have convinced me the stack approach is the way to go. I just have to find the time & enthusiasm to complete it.
James: LOL - I will have to post a photo when I do this, just for fun

I probably can help here... have been researching this over the past 3 months and getting samples in from all over the place. Samtec SSQ series is a good starting point. For the bee's knees Mill-Max have some excellent self nesting socket strips (for ultra low profile)

The smaller the better.

Just PM me if you go with the project. 2 for me.
I also need parts from DigyKey so would be happy to help out with the shipping costs.

Trust a guy who lives on a boat to think of that!
Seriously, it is going to end up a pretty compact object for what it can do. Sounds exciting.
Do you plan to offer "press-fit" connectors for this?
Your power plug is a little inconveniently placed. But I guess there is no choice.
