    Vaati,

    Mine says:
"Propeller Chip Version 1 found on COM6."

If I unplug the propplug or disconnect the powersupply:
"No Propeller chip found on any serial port."

The COM port could differ depending on your setup.
    Rick

Could you just check the Preferences (F5) and check that the Propeller Reset Signal is set to DTR..you may have changed this in trying to get it to work at some point.

And Just check under the ports (Edit Ports Button) that it shows the PropPlug port and that it is Present.

    Vaati,
    Brian Fairchild said...
You can check the PropPlug itself if you short TX and RX with a short piece of wire. You can then go into Hyperterminal, or better still PST (download from the Parallax website), select the right COM port number and then any character you type should be echoed in both the TX and RX windows. This will prove if it's your PC/PropPlug or your board.

    Have you done this ?

    Regards,
    John

It is not 0.... That is quite a relief... I know that all I will have to buy now is an $8 chip as compared to a $25 piece of hardware....

Well, it does show up under the "edit ports" button under preferences in the Propeller tool, so I am confident that it is fully functional. smile.gif

    Thanks.

    @Brian,
I believe he has - I sent Vaati a PM to confirm that and he has confirmed the test confirms that the prop plug is ok .. as suspected.

    Vaati,
You have had a few props so far haven't you? I seriously doubt that these chips that are supposed to be robust and rigorously tested are so much junk. You might want to try a regulated supply. Try a fresh 9v battery and a voltage regulator. They are cheap and you should learn about them anyway. The pic is a schematic of·one way it can be hooked up.

    Good Luck.

No, this is my first propeller chip. Also, I have an LM317T that I can use instead of a 3.3v regulator, as my only one of those is soldered down on the boss board. Those adjustable regulators are super useful! Thanks again to all of you for helping me troubleshoot my chip. I think this sets a record for having the most problems when entering the limitless realm of possibilities of the propeller chip. I think I've got it all sorted out now, and if I have any more questions or problems, I will be sure to post them. =)

They may be robust but they sure smoke if you apply 12v to them. They are not buletproof.

WAHOOO!!! I got a new propeller chip and breadboarded it and... it worked!!!! I used my adjustable voltage regulator to get it to be 3.3 volts without desoldering my only 3.3v regulator! I just hope it will work on the boss board. =)
