Caster Wheel for Boe Bot

Hi,

The ball wheel that comes with the Boe Bot seems to slide when then robot is turning.
This limits the payload of the robot.

Is there a easy way to change it to a caster wheel?

Probably, if you can find one. Keep in mind though that the heavier load would also have to be borne by the servos, which shouldn't get too much lateral stress.

Is the function of the ball wheel to keep to robot going straight ahead when the left and right servo motors are not accurately tuned?

    William,

The ball does not provide enough friction on almost any surface to keep the robot straight if the servos are not calibrated. In fact, the ball is so slippery on most surfaces that I cannot think of any way it would cause enough friction to be a problem unless the robot was over weight as mentioned above. The amount of payload it would take to cause such a problem would also be an issue for the servos themselves.

I stand by the proven sucess of the the original BoeBot design...

    Try omniwheels. smilewinkgrin.gif

This ones from Kornylak Corporation Wheel Division.

    Or, maybe find something smaller.

They're 2 inches in diameter though but still a possible option.
